Here is another clip of my LP copy into the bravo tube amp. I used the same speaker cab as I did on the strat. Used the gain channel. Started with lower gain for a blues tone, then kicked up the gain for a skynyrd riff, then kicked up the gain some more for a Aerosmith riff.

I don't really know anything that calls for the high gain of channel 3 so I just played a little Zep whole lotta love riff....but the gain was really too high for that to sound decent.

Here's a Seek and Destroy clip with the JCM 800.

For me, I like this better than the Splawn clips. But admittedly I'm just a sucker for this amp's sound. I like the tighter brighter grind in this amp.

So what I did was set it the same as the Splawn. All EQ controls at noon. Same mic, speaker, mic position. Nothing moved from the last clips. The only difference is the amp. The 800 doesn't have anywhere near the gain the Splawn has, so I dimed the gain and pushed the front end with a Tube Screamer set as a clean boost just to get it in the ballpark.

Note - this was WAY louder than the Splawn at the same master vol settings. Goddamn this amp is loud.
No EQ or FX in DAW

I like this better than the spalwn greg. It has more of the aggressive sound on the three chords after the palm muting. It sounds really good all the way around man.

Yeah, I was previously scooping at around 530 - just a little blip to try and remove the "boxy frequency"

I couldn't actually give it much more high end or take away much more mid on the amp (unless I want it to have no bite at all).

I think I have a 5K+ high shelf (for air) with a ~500 2-3db cut saved in ReaEQ actually. I think its even called "Greg's EQ" or maybe even "Bob's EQ"

Sounds just a little brighter to me in the top end, but it's pretty similar dude...You're killin' me with all these big amps, my little 15w is a good amp, but it don't got EL34's, which I miss terribly, & can't do a fuckin' thing about right now...

I'm still looking at options so I'd be able to get loud again...There's something I'm waiting on that will eventually get me outta here, but dunno how long it's gonna be before that happens...But when it does, I won't have to worry about pissing the neighbors off, ever, even at 2-3 in the morning....Just trying to be patient until that happens, but you're killin' me dude....

Man, I liked all of that. Good tight chunk to that amp. The lighter gain stuff sounded very classic rock appropriate to me. I didn't really like the highest gain Zep riff at first, but then you got to the lead and it was pretty cool.

Thanks. I like it better than the Splawn too, though the Splawn is pretty killer. But you just can't beat a simple Marshall and a tube screamer.

I love that fuckin' breakdown... I'll suffer through all that weird Robert Plant "ahhh.. ahhh...ahhh...ohhh...ohhh...ohhh...LOVE!!!" shit in the middle of the song, just to hear that one bad ass rock and roll break down.

Jimi: Wow man, the first few licks sounded almost like a strat to me, must be the way you're attacking those SRV licks....Nothin' wrong with a little Skynyrd riff either, one of my favorite bands ever....Same thing with the Zeppelin stuff, another of my favorite bands, your clip sounds good dude...The whole clip sounds good to me man...

Thanks! Yeah, I dont know why I do that that's just how I taught myself. Ive tried playing many times with an open hand like everyone else does but I cant do it, the newbness in me cant let go. Tone wise though its ok? My thinking is if Im close enough with these basically raw recordings Ive been sharing that I could tweek stuff later while mixing.

I would actually like it tighter too, not so much brighter though. When I hit/strum too hard it gets kind of muddy. Is this just a chractieristic of humbuckers? It does it on my Dot too so I don't think it's just the amp but I guess it could be. I've tried rolling back the volume on the guitar but that takes away the highs a bit as well thus kind of creating the same problem but a different way. If i split the coils on the LP in the neck position it then sounds too thin. This is kind of the happy median I've been able to get to.

It's a combination of everything. Humbuckers can be spanky and clean, but they have to be paired with the right amp, right amp settings, and/or the wiring and values of the vol and tone pots have to allow signal rolloff without losing high end. Some guitar vol/tone pot setups allow a nice output roll off while still preserving clarity. Some not so much. Some amps really respond well to full vs rolled off guitar signals, some don't. It just depends. Do you have an effects loop on that amp? And EQ pedal in the loop can really fine tune our sound. Get you an MXR 10-band EQ in the loop and you will be able to tweak whatever you want. Or keep trying your coil-splits and tweak with the tone knob. That might work. You can get the clarity of a single coil and roll off some of the shrill high end with the tone knob.

I like the musical idea of yours. very nice choral work and picking. I think the Paul has a great clean tone on this. It's not as easy to get a great clean tone with a Les Paul like it is with a strat.

That's one thing that drives me nuts about Orange - they make great amps and then they put large chunks of plastic right in front of the speaker - as opposed to off to the side like virtually everyone else. I took them off my Orange rocker verb 50 combo. Looks like you mic'd around it.
