Those prices are about the same as ours when adjusted to U.S Dollars.

A Les Paul Special - which is basically what that Crimson is copying - is less than $1000 U.S. Freedom dollars.

Ah, I didn't know what a Les Paul Special was, I assumed it was something better than a standard, but not as good as a custom, didn't realise it was a stripped down model like the the Studio. I really like the one with the double cut and pair of P90s - they're about 700 quid. Which I suppose is about $1000 blood soaked peace through superior firepower dollars.

Yeah a "Special" is basically a stripped down slab body double pickup Les Paul. It's not a Junior because a Jr has only one pickup. And it's not a Studio because Studios have a carved top. So, it's a Special. Slab body, two pickups, no fancy stuff. Lower end Les Paul. Not anywhere near a Standard or a Custom.

Yup I like those double-cut Juniors and Specials too. Very classic - especially in TV Yellow. There's a not-so-fine line between the coolness of a double-cut Jr/Special, and the absolute geezer-rock lameness of a double-cut LP Standard.

So cool.

So cheese.

LOL - didn't know they existed:
Gibson 2014 Les Paul Classic Double Cutaway Translucent Red
That's hideous.

Will be next year now before I can afford a new guitar though, going to build a 2x12 cab this autumn and I've just blown a load of cash on a new surfboard.

Yeah I never could get along with the looks of a "nice" Les Paul double-cut. It's great on the JRs, but the high end ones just look like PRS cheese to me. It just doesn't seem right. I suppose anything that makes a LP easier to play is a good thing, but I just can't get past the looks of it on the fancy ones.

Yeah, my Washburn Hawk is double cut and it looks great. Dunno why it looks good and the Les Paul double cut looks like a cheesy PRS. PRS's more plain colour, slab top guitars (with dots, not birds) look pretty nice. The pickups on the one I tried were way too gutless for me though.

I like my Hagstrom Deuce double-cuts.

This is the Deuce F Tobacco Burst...I've got one like this, plus I also have a black one (no F hole) and a cherry Deuce F w/trem.
Real sweet guitars.

That's really nice, I'd prefer it without some of the fancy bits like that tailpiece and some more normal amber knobs, but its still really nice.

I like it. Real nice. It has an almost Gretsch-like classic vibe to it. I'm not opposed to all double-cuts, just Les Paul Standard/PRS looking double cuts.

What you think of this:

Part of me wants to clean it up and use it, part of me just wants to give it away, part of me wants to rip it up for parts.

What I've decided is that I really don't need another guitar with a pair of humbuckers in it!

I don't hate it. Not too bad. Kind of unique. Not geezer cheesey at all.

Yeah, they are quite unique... but not in a vintage Fender kinda way... more in a way of no one knows what they are and no one is looking for it... so no one wants to bloody buy it!

Hows the neck? What pickups are in it?

Its a 5 piece neck-through: This guitar is where my fascination with neck through guitars comes from.
Not sure about the pickups - assume they'll just be some stock 1970s MIJ humbuckers - they seem pretty hot though. If/when I do take some parts off it I'll get a multi-meter on them. The bridge is really cool, its got a really chunky metal surround with big brass block saddles in it and its through body strung. Brass nut too.

Cool, reminds me of the Black Widow that Harvey Gerst designed. He used to hang around the forums here, but hasn't been around for quite a while. He designed the guitar when he worked for Acoustic, and Jimi Hendrix ended up with one of them. I can't remember the details, but Harvey could have had one of Hendrix's Strats in trade, but wanted his Black Widow back instead

I'll restring it and sort out set it up nicely and use it on a couple of recordings. That Hendrix guitar is fucking cool - I want it!
