Miner both those clips sound good to me, but IMO both have way too much gain for the songs.

miner... I thought these were very good. Going from memory, they sound a bit more scooped than per your usual. And I also thought the gain was maybe a tick too high, especially on the Kiss one.
Thanks TripM, I'm re-amping these right now dude, maybe I'll get it a little better next time 'round.....

Thanks again dude!!!

Dressed To Kill was a frequent flyer on my turntable in the 1970s. The amount of gain seems fine to me...but the guitars are not loud enough... vocals as well. The drums are a bit too beefy if you are trying to copy the original song from 1975.
Thanks dude, going back & listening to the original guitars, the gain is close to the tracks I'm going by, but they're rock band multi-tracks too, so the reference I'm going by might not be the best....:).On the drums, I'm really not going for the 70's thing, I was more concerned about the "performance" at the moment...

Thanks Greg, I've been waiting on your ears on these, & the general consensus is they're too gain-y, but I'm re-amping as I type this, so I'll post up some more clips in a while....BTW, what'd ya think of the drums/bass on these songs dude???

Ok, did a re-amp, pjt the '57 on the G12-65, dropped the gain, upped the mids, & took off some highs....I may have took too much off the high end, & not sure on the levels of the guitars, I can't tell right now, I need to come back to these songs with fresh ears....

Anyway, here's the new versions:

KISS cover

Foreigner cover

The guitars sound even better. I think that you've nailed the tone. As for the levels, the kick and snare seem to be dominating everything else in the mix.

Yes those are much better. They're a little dull to me, but not bad. You could add a tiny bit of shine with EQ.

Thanks man, I can't do anything about the drums until I get back to my desktop this evening, I rendered everything but the guitar di's to one track because this little laptop can't handle the cpu strain of the drum vsti's & other plugs...Thanks again ocnor!!!

Thanks dude, I could either use eq, or I possibly could mess with the mic levels between the '57 & 609, that might bring out just a little more high end...Thanks again Greg!!!

Here's a quickie I did today. It's gonna be my last tone for a few weeks. The wife is home on vacation and family is coming over so no wild noise making for me. Fucking holidays. :(

Hallmark 60 Custom - P-Rails P-90
Marshall 1987x
Presence - 4
Bass - 10
Mid - 4
Treb - 7
Vol 1 - 3
Vol 2 - 0
High input 1 only
No attenuator
Marshall 1960B 4x12 - Vintage 30 - Audix i5 just outside dustcap, on axis, 2" off grill
No EQ or processing in DAW

I really like this sound. It's raw and biting. I think this guitar goes well with this amp.
Pick My Nose And Eat It
(This isn't just a one minute clip, this is an entire song I used to play lol)

That's a nice raw sound Greg.
Now I want to hear the whole song - I get suckered that way.
Your mic placement really captures the best tone.

Been wondering where ya were at, now I know....lol...Hang in there man, I feel your pain, I only get to use my amp about once a week or so now because of the situation I'm in, but, that's fuckin' life I suppose, it could be worse, I could be fuckin' dead....hahaha

Nice, biting clip dude, it's a bit brighter than I'm used to hearing from you, but sounds good nonetheless dude...

Here's some shit playing of mine I did this evening, I wasn't even gonna post it, but fuck it, I'll be gone again tomorrow for a few days, & won't have 'net access until I get back here (Im at the gf's place right now)...I could go on & on bitching, but it won't do any good, I just have to suck it up & go on...

Anyway, here's the tone, I mic'd the Greenback with the 609, & the G12-65 with the '57. No eq/post processing, both tracks same level....

Thanks Ray. Sadly there is no whole song to hear. That goes way way back, and there's no recording of it. But that was my guitar part. The whole thing. A minute of noise. :D

That sounds pretty good to me. Sounds like some low end stacking up, but in a mix I bet it'd sound great. Those are great speakers to work with.

Thanks man, I do like those 2 speakers best out of the 5 different Celestions I have, it'd be a hard choice to pick between 'em. I think I like the GB just a little better, but it may be where I've had it longer, & it's broken in pretty good. The 65 is broken in, but doesn't have the hours on it the GB does....

It's damn hard to beat a Greenback.
Yeah dude, I like mine (the one....hahaha) a lot...I think the China-made GB I have is great, but often wonder how it compares to the English speakers....The new ones, not the old ones, I already know that little outcome...lol...

I'm seriously considering just going the ampsim route completely until things get better for me...I dunno man, things are just all fucked up for me over here right now...At least I can still play/record/write/whatever, my situation just plain sucks right now...

Mine are UK made, but I've heard the chinese ones and they sound the same to me. In fact, I've read that even from total cork sniffing tone snobs, they say the chinese made Greenbacks are just fine.

Just keep chugging away dude. Focus on one thing at a time instead of the whole picture. Get healthy and take on the next battle.

Amp sims are fine, man. You seem to be getting good with amplitube. I used amp sims for years for writing and still play and write with them a lot cos you can do it without pissing people off, then just do final "live" takes at a later date.

I spend hours sitting around with my headphones on playing while people are asleep. I spent 2 hours cocking about like that this morning.

I've read that too man, I just wonder about stuff I've never tried for myself...If I had to pick just one speaker (which would be really hard for me to do), I'd probably go with GB's....the 65 is a really close second though, it's got a lot of the same character the GB has, it's just a little different in the top end IMO...

Honestly, I hear "V30 this, V30 that" all the time, & while they are great for some stuff, they're my least favorite out of all my speakers. I like the T-75's better than the V30's myself...

I'm still iffy about the G12H speaker I have. It's just really harsh in the top end at times, but other times, I like it a lot....lol..

I know man, I just have days that I get really dis-heartened by all this shit. I know it could be worse, I just get down on all this shit at times....Thanks dude.....

Yeah man, that's pretty much what I have to do right now, & to me, the ampsims are getting better, but they're nothing like playing through a real amp...

So I'm outta here for a few days guys, I can check in by stealing wi-fi at the neighbor's place, a few doors down, but that depends on the weather. If it's cold out, I'm obviously not gonna even attempt it, but again, I'll be back in a few days, might even have a song or two done by then....

Keep at the toans guys, keep the thread goin', this is honestly one of the things that keep me going these days, looking forward to this thread....

Hey Lt Boob....I have NYXLs on ALL of my guitars now. Goddamn those things are awesome. Thanks for the tip. :thumbs up:

Yall need to try em out.

I'm glad to know I wasn't crazy!
Well, I am crazy ...... but not about NYXLs being great ....... they really are awesome ......

Sweetwater has them in a 3 pack for 29.99 ......
And Musicians friend has them in a 5 pack with a free headstock tuner for 59.99 BUT .... they have the Lights 10-46 mispriced at 82.99 and after a month of me reporting it they're not competent enough to get it fixed so if you use 10-46 you can't get that 5 pack but if you use 9's then the 5 pack w/tuner is 59.99

Ok, another ampsim tone here, I think it's passable, but not quite there yet, needs more low-mids possibly....Lemme know what you thing, everything here is me except the vocals (obviously...hahaha)...

Cover #3

I will say I have much more respect for the drummer & bass player (especially) in this band, they're monster players IMO...
