OK, another kick at the can.

Been working on the guitar sound for this like a motherfucker. Also, I finally added drums, so it won't sound so annoying with that drum machine.

Are the guitar tones better? I think they are, but I'm not sure what if I'm hearing what I think I'm hearing any more.

Yes those are significantly better. Chunky but clear, no weird quackiness. Well done. Sounds great.

Thank frickin' god. I was going to give it all away and join a fucking monastery. Thanx for all your help, Greg and everyone. I know I posted this about 12 times and you guys were patient and helpful the whole time.

That explains your endless love/hate relationship with HR. :)

HEE! :D

I just have to stay away from the off-topic forums...or forum. I haven't been to Prime Time for a while. I'm better off just being here for the music.

RAMI,
My goodness real drums make a difference.
Cool tones and the chirpy is cool too.

RAMI, I'll check out you're latest version later on. Was expecting to be staying away tonight on a two day job, but it's 1pm here and I've already finished so I should be home at a reasonable time to have a proper listen and work on my own tone.

Getting somewhere with the mic placement now, so that's another variable eliminated, just gotta dial the amp in now.

Yeah, last one sounds better. Though, I liked the sound you had for that particular piece. Probably wouldn't work for most songs, but I liked it for that one.

I thought the tones were first rate. They're not even close to harsh. So you would have the option of boosting the upper midrange if they don't cut through in any given mix. I liked 'em. Is that your Fender amp?

Thanx Trip. Yeah, finally sounds good, I think. :)

well you wont have to worry about prime time for a while, thats for sure...

its there mate ;)

Yeah, I just realized that. Like I said above, I probably should just stick to the music sections here. But I haven't even posted in Prime Time in a few weeks, so I guess they just randomly banned people for no reason. Pretty stupid if you ask me.

Anyway, from now on, I'll only post if I have a song for the clinic.

yup, cant say I disagree at the moment.

anyway, not to derail the tone thread, just saw your post :)

OK, here's some raw tones, no mixing, no multi tracking. There's a few of them but I'd appreciate your help to get me heading in the right direction.

First my amps knobs aren't numbered but run from about 7 O'Clock to 5 O'Clock.
On all clips the Gain is at 9 O'Clock (that's lowish) but the preamp vol is at 3 O'Clock - that's pretty high.
The master stays on 12 on all clips but goes up to 3 O'Clock on the last clip.
ISF is Blackstar voicing. Full US would be 7 O'Clock, Full UK would be 5 O'Clock.
All recorded with an SM57 about an inch of the grill just off the edge of the dust-cap.

I'm still not entirely happy with any of them but aside from the one where I crank up the master I think they gradually get better but still need more work, so any help from a proper "tonal surgeon" like Greg, Uncle Bob, Bubba or RAMI would be nice.

I've since added another with the Mooer Yellow Comp added with comp set to 12 and EQ set to 2 O'Clock.

RAMI, that sounds much better - I can hear everything properly - nothing is clouding anything else. The guitars sound punchy (though quite american) and the lead stands out.

Well JD, to me the US ISF setting side sounds better. For that style and that tone, the yank tone option just seems better.

From there, I like the "B10 M10 T2 ISF9 US" clip the best. You need to control the bass and mids on that amp. All of the clips are kind of murky, and the bass and mids rolled back just sound better from that amp to me.

And in that regard, the comp clip sounds clearly the best to me because the low end is tighter and more controlled. It' not even close. The yellow comp clip wins by a mile.

Excellent, cheers Greg. That's exactly the sort of help I was after. I thought it sounded better with the comp on too as soon as I thought to use it. That's not my comp, it belongs to the Rhythm guitarist, he's having it back to go on his mini board in January by my sister is getting me an SD1 Christmas which may perform a similar function.

I'll work off the clip that I liked and the one you said was best out of the main group tomorrow evening and see if I can come up with something that's actually good.

I'll try going loud without my keys on top of the amp tomorrow too!!!
