Hey guys,
I'm still alive over here, been having some health issues, but I think/hope it's gonna be ok...We'll see I suppose....

I'm down to 1 amp now, had to sell 'em all except the DSL100, but that's ok, I'll eventually get back on my feet & get some of that shit back, & to be honest, the DSL is fine for the music I play,, although I do miss the Ceriatone pretty badly.:(...

Anyway, here's a quick-n-shitty DSL clip, nothing special, actually the first time I've even picked up a guitar in a couple weeks, so look over the sloppy-ass playing....

LP > DSL100H > '65 > SM57

50w mode
OD 1
Resonance: 0
Presence: 0
Bass: 7
Mid: 3
Treble: 1.5 - 2

Clip sounds good man ....... a little darker than I usually hear outta you but nice nonetheless.

Thanks Bob, life's throwing me more than a curve dude, I'll pull through all this shit, but instead of a curve, it's like a fuckin' trainwreck....

I acutally purposely made that clip a little darker dude, the DSL is a bright-ass amp, so I'll have to keep the high end in check with it....And just to be honest, I really haven't used this amp very much at all. It actually still shines & has the new smell, it's barely been used at all. When I got the Ceriatone, I pretty much just pushed this amp to the side & forgot about it, but I'm pretty positive it can deliver some pretty good tones too, but I still miss that "kerrang" the Chupa had...Maybe this amp has it's version of that somewhere in there & I just haven't found it yet.

Tryin' to stay positive over here, a couple of you guys know some of what's happening, to say it's been rough is putting it lightly...but again, tryin' to stay positive over here...:).

Fuck me, I hated to let the Ceriatone go, but that choice was pretty much made for me, there was no choice, but again, I'll live (I hope...), & will get some of those things back eventually....

Thanks again Bob....

BTW: I've been checking out your buddy Gregg Wright, & he's got some serious talent man. Makes me proud to hang out here with you because in order to hang with him, you have to have some fuckin' talent too dude, props to ya....

Sounds pretty good to me man. Nothing wrong with that DSL. :)

Thanks Greg, while it does take a lot more fiddling than the Ceriatone ever did, it's still a good amp that has some good tones waiting to be found...

I like the overall tone and think it is pretty good. The only thing I'm not crazy about is that fuzz/fizz that comes off the high end, but it only sticks out when the high notes ring out. When you're hitting the lower chunky stuff, it gets masked out.
Don't feel bad though...it's something that's hard to avoid when you get into that distortion zone with most amps.

That's the kind of stuff that I'll nit pick over for hours when I'm recording, and try out a bunch of amps/guitars, because I'm looking for a way to get the low end distortion growl...but without ever hearing any fuzz/fizz on the high end in the overall tone.

I've tried a variety of approaches over the years. At one point I was even looking for a way to split the guitar signal, and somehow distort the lower end, but keep the high end clean...:D...but it just wasn't happening.
So the best case IMO, is to try and minimize it or see if you can mask it out as much as possible....but when those high's ring out, and the fuzz/fizz is noticeable...I never cared for that sound.

Minerman,
Dark for Dark work as Tolkien made Gandalf say.
Bummer about the way things have been recently.
Sounds like you may be able to use the DSL to express yourself pretty well.
I rather like the darker side of that amp - In fact, having heard it I don't know where I'd apply EQ to amke it brighter.
The Ceria was a good amp in that it was what it was. My Superbass is basically the same idea - here a great sounding amp, these are a couple of knobs - do with it what it will let you.

Probably the first tone I've posted recording with my amp at a decent volume - not completely full on, about 1/2 way on the master - I'm sure its loud enough to annoy my neighbours carers. It certainly sounded loud in the room when I took my headphones off. Went a bit modal madness in the middle but oh well. Was fun at the time. Bit wah wah crazy at the end too. Had to sim all the lead work as its getting later here now.

Miner, that tone sounds fucking great, mate. Very Jerry Cantrell. Probably one of my favourite ones you e done actually.

Hope you're recovering ok, dude

Been a while since we've had a tone. This is the tone I currently use with the band, but I'm playing punky shit through the bridge pickup whereas I'm normally being more delicate through the neck pickup.

Not too bad. Not my taste really, kind of dark for me, a little boxy.

Dark... everyone says my tones are dark. What do you actually mean by dark? I always think in terms of warm/bright. When I think of dark I tend to thing more of something that sounds like a drum with too much deadening on it. Is that what you mean? And what can I do about it?

Here's another tone. This is a heavy one - its actually basically the same amp setting but I've notched the gain up to 9 O'Clock (yes, that's low but I have loads of gain available). Its basically my antidote to playing folk/pop all the time.

Dark typically means it's very thick in the lows, low mids, the highs don't really sparkle or shine. The crunch character of that amp is dark. The breakup in the low end is heavy. It can mean muffled, it can mean warm, but you can have a clean capture of a dark tone.

That's dark to me too, but it fits the style.

Hmmm, I get you. It is to do with the EQ of the amp then which I noticed when I got the amp and when I was testing it. Which is why I have the mids, just about in the middle, the bass reduced a bit and the treble pushed up a bit.

I notice the difference quite a lot between guitars actually. My Tele (main guitar) is far darker/warmer than my Ibanez.

I hope to get some with the amp pushed a bit more tomorrow if the carers take my neighbour for a day trip!

That's just the voice of the amp. I notice it with all Blackstars and it's why I personally don't care for them. It has this murky gain character that I just don't get along with. I like smoother, tighter lows and more grunt in the mids and highs - ala Marshall. It's just my preference. Doesn't mean anything.

Does sound Punky JDOD. I couldn't say anymore without the context of the band as I can't hear what part of that tone would cut through.

Sorry, was out watching the new bond film, which was rediculous but a lot of fun.

Greg, I think its the Rocket50 speaker thats quite dark. I don't mind it, hey, its better than any other amp I've owned! I've tried the Studio20 head through a V30 and it didn't sound so dark.

rayc, most of the stuff I post is with bass and drums going on too. I wanted to post a few "naked" tones today so you can tell what's going on just with the guitar.
