Hey Miner, sorry to hear that, but as Lt says, if it ain't right it ain't right. Does that mean you're going to be able to rock a huge Marshall stack now?!?!

:)

That's how we did it back in the day and it is better!
That's a cool soundman who could see that it would work like that. I know you were happy as hell with that tower of power flapping your shorts!

that does sound like a treat, i dont think the bands i was in...hell I know...the venue was never big enough for that and the one guy that had the marshal stack had to powersoak and cover it with a blanket, because the room was so small.
most times ive heard the marshal stack was in a house and they werent ever turned up past 2.
often wondered how that would feel to really turn one up and hear it, or feel it moving the air... i would think it makes you play a little different?

You ever been to a pro car race, like drag races, and when the cars go by the loudness shakes your vision? That's what it's like. It fights you back. That how I'd describe it with me anyway. With a halfstack, or even two cabs side-by-side, it's not such a problem because you can get away from it. But with two cabs stacked vertical, it's different. It's strange. You aren't in total control anymore. You have to find that sweet spot where you and the roaring amp work in harmony. If you're right up close, the loudness will actually make you sound out of tune because the sound is like it's forcing it's way back into the guitar. It's not feedback. It's like an invisible shockwave pounding the guitar. I'm more of a rhythm player though, so it's not a big deal.

Another thing that seems to make a difference to me when I'm using the full stack vertically are the casters between the two cabs. If I keep the wheels on the top cab and set the top cab in the little wheel pockets of the bottom cab, it sounds more like two individual cabs and the sound isn't as punishing. It's still loud as fuck, but it's a tighter, brighter sound. But if I take the wheels off the top cab and set them flush together, I think they couple together as one and the sound is more like one big thick blast of power.

No wheels between. :D

yes ..... that's even better for a lead player ..... the way it lets you hold notes with the amplifier essentially plucking or vibrating the strings for you. That's how some of the guys from that era got the sounds they got. Hendrix, for instance, couldn't have gotten some of the sounds he got without a stack (or 3!) behind him. Same with Zep and a lot of those bands that popularized stacks back in the day.
And you're exactly right .... side by side on the floor does not sound the same.
I played bass with a guy that used two satcks ....... I had an SVT with two 8x10 cabs.
We were glorious sounding!

yeah it was an awesome sound we had and a great band ..... but that bass rig was like carrying two refrigerators around!

:laughings:

I know dude, I used to play with a guy that used an old Ampeg SVT and 8x10. The head alone was like 90 pounds. Great, great classic powerful bass tone, but fuck that shit was crazy heavy.

Damn dude, hang in there.

Don't see any new PMs. Send it again!

LOL ..... I'm prolly gonna have to ditch that band I was excited about. The trumpet player is dismissive of anything I say, apparently thinking he's in charge of the horns and when i'll try to point out a part or something I don't like he'll say, "I'll explain it to you later."

:laughings:

He's very close to a "Hey, fuck you you dick sucking motherfucker" as a warm-up and then further explanation of just what a piece of shit he, and prolly his family, all are.

Lol. Who'da thunk a damn horn blower would be the dick of the band? Kick his ass then quit.

Seriously, a fucking trumpet. You could replace him with a kazoo and no one would notice.

He's definitely a dick .... a monster player though ...... but so am I so fuck him.
It's been one of those things where I'm so pissed I haven't even been sleeping well.

Actually, when they first recruited me, I didn't realize this guy was in the band ....... when I found that out about a week later I came super close to calling and backing out of it ...... but the band was gonna be so good I figured I could manage to co-exist with him but I don't think so now.
Too bad ....... but he's got the wrong motherfucker to talk down to ..... that's my hot button.
:D

Hey guys, droppin' by again to say howdy.....stayed all night with the new girlfriend, & I'm using her 'net acess.....things should be getting easier on my end before too much longer, damn if it ain't been tough at times, but, I'm hangin' in there.....

The "album" is almost ready for re-tracking the guitars/bass, the fake drums are pretty much done....

Anyway, gotta run, talk to you guys in a few days....
