I'm thinking feedback would be a megabitch with a Gretsch and loud Marshalls.

This is the Gretsch I was trying out: -

G6128TDSLH Duo Jet

The pickups on it were so hot. I was playing through a 1x12 Fender combo (don't remember which, but was priced around the same as the Hot Rod Deluxe Mk3 is now) and it sounded so sweet just playing chords with the amp slightly dirty and dicking around with the Bigsby.

Get a JCM1. That's the best one of the ones. :D

Jonny: Get the JCM-1 man, that's the one I originally wanted, but had to wait, & they ended up being really hard to find....If I had the $$$, I'd have all the 1w Marshalls...

Lol, thanks for helping with my self-restraint there, fellas! I'm pretty sure I'm going to get one - there's a cheapish ex-demo available here that I'll probably pick up.

Sorry man, but if I had the $$$, I'd have all the 1w Marshall amps...The older models (like the JCM-1) are getting hard to find AFAIK, so if you can snag one at a good price, I'd say go for it...GAS is a terrible thing on my end, especially being a broke fucker...LOL...

The only thing I don't like about the first 3 1w amps is the lack of an fx loop, but, if you're gonna record with 'em, you could add the fx in the daw anyway, so it's really not an issue...I kinda wish I'd gotten the JCM-1 instead of the DSL-1, but, I'm very happy with the DSL-1 after I've gotten a few things lined out using it (different speakers make a big, big difference IMO...)...Keep us posted dude....

....You need a pointy, 80's hair metal guitar dude, with a Floyd Rose....:laughings:.
.
Lol, never in a billion years man, not even if it was given to me. I really do hate those guitars. They are completely void of style or class. I know people play the shit out of them, but they're just not for me. They feel like a fence picket with huge frets. I need something with some meat and/or style.

I'm thinking one of these:
Gretsch Guitars G5620T Electromatic Center Block Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar | Musician's Friend

Basic semi-hollow single cut Gretsch Electromatic. I love them. I know it would feedback like a bitch though. One of my guitarists had a Gibson ES-137, and while it sounded great, it would feedback like crazy next to a loud gained up amp.

+1 I'd like to have them all too.
Still lovin my JVM1, wish I never sold the DSL1 too.
Good to hear yours is rocking well.

I've been getting heavy into my Eleven rack, there's some awesome new presets I've been fooling with, Soldano & Mesa B MII's, pretty radical stuff. There's a huge 11R user's group out there and they just released a cool stand alone software editor for it, so you don't have to use protools to unlock all of its functions. The 11R's can be had for under $400 new (no protools) and the editor is free.

Thought I'd turn ya on to it, just in case. :guitar:

Hey....... whats with this anti pointy/Floyd rose bs? lol :guitar:

You know what the differences are between my Fender Strat Plus and my Charvel Model 1A?

1994 Fender USA Stratocaster Plus Caribbean Mist.webp

1988 Charvel Red Model 1A 2nd 1.webp

The Strat is worth a lot more money, but the "Pointy" is better for metal! :guitar:

Enjoy!! :guitar::guitar::guitar:

Wavewarrior: I appreciate the heads up on the 11 Rack, but, I'm pretty much all in with my real amps now....I still use my ampsims from time to time (less & less though...it's been months since I've use an ampsim for a guitar tone...the last time I can remember is when I was trying to get as close as I could to the Van Halen 1 tone...IIRC, that was back in the summer...), & will always use their effects in the daw, but, again, I'm pretty much all in with my amps...

On the Gerg & a pointy, hair metal guitar....ain't gonna happen....my reply to his post was a joke, & he knows that, dunno if you did or not...:)

Gretsch Guitars G5620T Electromatic Center Block Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar | Musician's Friend

different thing. That 137 is hollow isn't it? Doesn't have a center block.
If the Gretsch has a full center block it'd be like a 335 which doesn't really have feedback issues because the whole center of it is solid.
With that center block it's essentially a solid body guitar with two acoustic 'wings' on it.

I'd like Gibson's 339 which is a 335 shrunk down to the size of a les paul. drool

Its all good, I figured I'd give you a heads up on the stuff in the 11R, still love that Marshall tone, but that Soldano stuff got a bunch gain too. Working on a CD and using a mix of tubes & sim amps for some layers with it all, pretty fun stuff.

I'm just messing with ya Greg, checked out your tunes, I know you're a old punk rocker, ya woulda kicked azz in CBGB's back in the day. lol

Take care dudes! :guitar:

I didn't know that about a 335 Bob, thanks for the info!!! FWIW, my nephew has a 335 copy, & it has feedback from hell, but, being a copy, it may not have the center block thing...That guitar does sound really good though even though it's a no-name copy....He's had it for 20+ years now...

Wavewarrior: Again, thanks for the heads-up on the 11 Rack, but I'm all in with the gear I have....I'm working on an album too, & hope to get a lot done this week while I'm off work....

Ok, so I've been knee deep in drum programming, with some help from the Gerg, I've changed a couple/few things on this, but it's still not finished, far from it, but I think it's getting there....I changed the snare sound completely, & changed the way the hats were played here/there, but that's really all I've done to the song...I've bitched about not having much time during the week because of work, but now I get a whole week off, so I've got no excuses not to finish something up in the next few days...:).

Lemme know what you guys think, & if I'm heading in the right direction with the drum programming....none of the guitar/bass tones have been changed, again, been concentrating on the drum programming....

Okay then I misspoke. Whatever his big-body Gibson was had a block down the middle, but the rest was hollow and it had the single cut and pointy lower horn like a 137. He also had a red 335 that I liked a lot and was gonna buy from him. I had it on loan for a little while and liked it, but it too had feedback issues. I recorded "Murder at the Drive-In" with it and the little clean parts were great, but the loud parts were tricky fighting feedback, so I passed on it. :(

Ha, thanks. I don't knock anyone for playing the pointy shred machines. They're great for their intended purpose.

Getting better. The hats are much improved. Way better. Now they're sounding more like real hi-hats. Now just drop em down a little. They're pretty loud in the mix. I think the snare is better too. I'm not crazy about that particular snare sound, it's a little boxy, but it doesn't sound like a drum machine anymore. So yeah, your diligence is paying off with improvements.

I'm not sure about the 137 ....... I just did a quick search but it looks like it's hollow. But I may be wrong.

So I pulled the trigger - the JCM1 should be here Tuesday. I'm so weak.

His might have been some special edition 137 or something. Or maybe some odd model that isn't very popular. It had a 137 shape and thickness, but it had the block and it had a stop tailpiece. I'll call him later and ask about it. Here's a pic of it.....
