Lol, I thought you said you are not and never will be good at recording, so your veracity is running kinda thin.

Fair enough...

I used an MXL 4000. About 2 feet away from the mic. Eye level. Figure 8 pattern. I'll probably try Omni, as my room has a fairly decent sound.

The SM57 is great for classical guitar, but not flamenco. Does't capture the attack that well.

I agree..thats cause the capsule is covered or hidden..

someday I may go back to the 57 and drill small holes inside that plastic cover to let vibrations in and see what happens..

A little clean Devo tone with the Strat.

Diggin' that tone, Sam. Nice chimey, full-sounding strings with a touch of what I'm guessing is spring reverb from the amp. Sounds really good.

Details, man! Nice tone but I need to know how it was done. :D

that is a nice tone ... looking forward to reading how you got that :)

Thanks Guys! :)

That's my modeler, Axe FX II.
I used the Fender Twin model
and added a spring reverb block to it.

Lead pick-up, this guitar has the "Hot Noiseless" pups.

Recorded it direct into my DAW.

Bought a used amp today, a Marshall MGMSII 15 watt (solid state) head & 2 1x10" cabs......I'm planning on putting Celestions in the cabs, & buying a couple low watt tube heads to use with 'em.....Paid $150 for the head & both cabs.....

Here's a clip of the head ran through my 1x12 Greenback cab....it doesn't sound bad, considering it's solid state....the gain was set pretty low, for me, anything over 4-5 on the gain is just too much......And to be honest, it actually sounds good through my Greenback cab, & is as loud as my 5w Blackstar.....

Used the '57 mic, on the usual cone meets the cap thing, about 2" from the grill. Settings on the amp were:

Gain: 2
Volume: 3
Bass: 7
Mid: 6
Treble: 9
"FDD" switch was on (gives the little amp kind of a volume boost.....)

Anyone tried an Egnater Tweaker 15w head???? I'm thinking of buying one in the next month or so to use with these cabs (after I upgrade the speakers......)......And, I'll most likely end up buying a Marshall JVM1 when they're released (should sound great, & look great with the matching mini cabs).......

Here's a pic of the amp I picked up today:

More proof that tone is as much in the hands as anywhere.

You can try THIS easy and free mod on the 57, 58 and all clones.

I'm very intrested to know if it has the vibrato arm where it stops a fully tone above the note when pulled (if i remember right)
How is this achieved mechanically?

Hi Kip, it is a 2011 and has a regular American Standard two point tremolo and the thinner neck.
I have the bridge set up to float (which is a new experience for me), and it rises about a 1/2 tone if I pull it up.

I had a '65 strat when I was 12 that I sold at age 30, thinking that I could buy new technology if I ever
started playing again. This guitar is everything that one was and more, American Fenders have only improved over the years, IMO.

She looks great mate. I guess she plays like a dream. Nice one Sam.

Was the color your choice or was it just the better playing/feel one.

I didn't think I was a fan a SS Marshalls, but that clip sounds pretty damn good. How do the Marshall cabs that came with it sound?

Thanks Seeker, the cabs suck really, the speakers are 10", with a tiny magnet. No comparison to the 12" Greenback cab I have, but I'm gonna upgrade the speakers in the little cabs (V30 in the bottom, most likely a 10" Celestion in the top, just havent made up my mind which one yet...), so I'll have 3 different "flavors" of speakers to track with, or blend, or whatever. They're smal too (the bottom cab, which is straight, is pretty much the same size as my HT-5 combo), so they'll be easy to move around (I like putting my combo/cab in another room, so I can monitor the sound coming through the daw.......)....

And, the little ss head actually sounds good through the 1x12 cab, through the 1x10's, not so much, but again, in a couple weeks I'm gonna upgrade the speakers.....An Egnater Tweaker head is on my "list" too in the near future......

I have no experience with vintage fenders when they were new, only as older instruments. But I agree that the new RI ones are actually better than the originals. That may be due to years of neglect and degradation, but the new ones are awesome! My only nit would be the poly finish won't wear as wonderfully as the old nitro finishes...probably no tone difference at all...in fact the poly don't really wear at all! And even the guitars with "nitro" finishes have poly undercoats (as have most fenders from the 70s on).
