The New Tone Thread

In fairness, I did listen to the klops clip he posted. I agree with whoever commented on the big hall verb. Too much reverb to really hear what the thing was doing, but even so it did have a unique tonal quality. I like my muddy 4x12 cab, but I could see using something like that as a side effect for certain songs or recordings.

That's all we were trying to suggest...that he sell it as an option/addition for more flavor, instead of as a "better than" approach.
I guess he'll find out how well it sells...who knows.......?

That would be my approach, too. Pretty hard sell to replace the traditional half stack with, imo. I'd love to hear a clip of a traditional cab mixed with the klops, especially at different mix ratios. This would probably help hype the product, especially to home recordists of which there is a huge $$$ market.

^^^^^ this ^^^^^

for me regardless of the merit of the speaker, it's impossible to get past his bunch of absolute BS claims.

Plus absolutely anyone who's even vaguely handy can just get a shell and make their own for a lot less.

+1.
My little Marshall is pretty good.
I bet if changed the tubes it might even sound better.
Playing it through a real cab makes it sound more like the real thing.

There was some messed up stuff I had to fix.
There was a loose screw rattling around in it,
and it took me a couple weeks to locate the black lock washer that goes with it inside of the amp.
It came with no manual and no power cord too.

Same here. Love my amps.

Seeker as far as I'm concerned, you have one of the best amps ever made. Post up more clips of that 800. :)

I need to get my lazy ass out in the studio and post up some stuff.

I just put new strings on my guitar for the first time since I got it.

Listening to some KISS earlier. Old KISS is one of the classic examples of good Marshall-driven rock and roll sound, so the next clip I post here will be a KISS medley.

Hey gang. Back again. Is it weird that i am never online? I don't think I have ever seen a thread grow this quick? HaHa

So I got a question for everyone. At what point do you just say screw it and just record your songs? I think i am holding back on my songs and blaming it on the tones! Lame right? Just Curious.

Nah, it's not lame, but keep in mind that you are probably your own worst critic. I know that for me, I sometimes sweat stuff that I know no one will even notice. I'll redo an entire drum track because of one wacky snare hit. But guitar tones are very subjective. To me, the beauty of guitar tone is that it can be very forgiving as long as it doesn't sound flat-out bad. Maybe you dial in a tone that doesn't have as much grit as you'd like for yourself, but to someone else, as long it doesn't sound terrible, it'll work just fine in the song. As you progress in your tracking techniques and learn your gear, you'll be able to dial something in and get it right pretty much right off the bat. Everything has a learning curve - even sims. With the last amp I used, I got to a point where I just needed to turn it on and I knew how to tweak it to get immediate satisfaction. With my new gear, I'm still in the process, but I'm moving along. Enjoy the process.

Thanks for the advice. That is my problem completely. I am my worst and pretty well only critic. I just have to bite the bullet and put out some shitty sounds and move on from there. I keep forgetting this is a home based effort and getting a nice polished sound isn't going to happen overnight. Even though that would be way more awesome.

In short, my expectations of myself are higher then my abilities right now.

That's normal. I'm that way with my playing. I can envision and hear parts in my head that i simply cannot play. No biggee. I just do what I do.

Ha! Me too. More so with bass, and drums kind of. I don't play drums at all programming but even then i hear the stuff in my head and then try to get it out of my fingers. Doesn't work all that well sometimes. But eventually it comes out. Eventually.

Anywho, enough of this online business, back to the recording. Hopefully have something cool to put tomorrow or this weekend.
