Come on. Someone post something. I don't want this thread to die. It's the marquee thread of the Guitar forum. :D

LOL. I'm just about to do some slide through my Bassman and was gonna upload that. Only cause it's been so quite.

I've been feeling like crap the last few days so I haven't had the gumption to fiddle with my new amp. I've been wanting to do a little troubleshooting and record it doing what it can. Soon...

I've been busy mixing my next album. 14 songs of Greg awesomeness. I know you know, some of us in here actually record music. I'm starting to get the feeling we are a marginalized minority.

IMO, YMMV, etc.

I do have some new tone stuff to try though. Next week for sure.

Tone related - I sold my Tube Cube attenuator for AUS$70 - les than 1/2 I paid for it but the thing wasn't being used as there was no point with my Superbass & even less with the 5 watt Kustom. The new owner really likes it so that's a win win. I even found the roiginal instructions as well as cable that came with it. I have a couple of songs in the fire that are keeping me engaged mix wise.

Ok Rami, how about some dope on the 6550 v EL34?

The former valve has a much higher anode (plate) dissipation rating than the EL34 at 42W as opposed to 25W. The EL34 has a higher absolute Va rating of 800V but I know of no amp that runs them even close to that.

Re the grid leak resistor. For fixed bias operation the maximum "book" value is only 50k! That is very low and would call for some re-design of the classic Phase Inverter stage if implemented but, since when have guitar amp mnfcts EVER taken any notice of valve ratings!!??

So, the 34 is not a proper shoe-in for the 6550, nearest thing over here is the KT88. Lovely tube (IF you can get good ones!) but bloody expensive. Fortunately the bias voltages are very close at around -32V so a swap should not cause instant destruction.

I had but a short time in the gitamp industry but it was a very nice "last job" before I retired. They had me back for a bit as well but family health issues put the kybosh on me continuing. I do worry where the next generation of valve amp techs is coming from. Maybe it is different for my colonial cousins?

Dave.

I'll just etransfer you money now i guess. :listeningmusic:

Just got off another round of semi forced holidays. I will have some tones due to being recently inspired. I got one original song i am realllllly fucking stoked on finishing. Once i get the lyrics and arrangements done i'll start posting trial tones and all that schnozz.

I have gone back to the drawing board on a cover song i was working on cause the drums sucked. Love the tone out of that AD30 But the drums are shite, Like really Really shite. Got some coaching from some forum members so going to fix that horseshit up.

Missed this place.

Here ya go Marshall-heads....I'm making a custom theme for myself in Reaper using some free software....Far from being finished but I wanted you guys to see this first...

Can anyone guess what the theme is based on???:)

It's obviously based on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Duh!
Good one dude, I know they've been shite for quite a while now, but I've been a Steelers fan all my life....

I'm sure you know, but this is supposed to be a Marshall looking theme...What needs to be done to make it better (other than trashing it & letting someone else do it..:laughings:.)????

You should have the track names in white cursive letters.
I'm working on a lot of stuff dude, never realized how deep/complicated some of this shit is until I waded into it...I think it'll be cool if I ever get anywhere near done with it though...maybe....:laughings:

Thanks man, I'm still working on it, so there will be more changes/additions....

Dunno if anyone noticed or not, but the "FX" button is actually like the clean/crunch/od buttons on the JVM's.....:D

When you are done that one miner dude I'd like to contract you to make a Peavy Bandit theme for me. I will gladly pay you with 5 guys burgers.

Well dude, it's pretty slow going here, as I'm having to learn as I go...Not gonna promise anything but we'll see if I ever get the Marshall theme finished...

I've actually made some changes to the knobs/buttons that I think are cool, I'll post another pic in a little while to see what you guys think....

So I haven't been very happy with the results of mt slide trails (going to get back to it tomorrow and see what happens) but I thought I'd share this. The pic doesn't do this guitar justice. It's a beautiful 60's era sea foam green (or whatever Gibson calls it). My buddy just bought it a few weeks ago.

Green Les Paul.webp
