the one I tried was at Sam Ash, they just got it in. I don't know about older ones, but this one had 4/8/16ohm outs and also said it had Celestion speaker.

i tried it and liked the sound, but again decided that it's too loud for my purposes, there's no way to crunch it without killing my cat :)

Don't worry about the cat. Just get a $250 THD hotplate and attenuate that 5 watts into 0.25 or less! Kitty will be purring in no time :p

i use a weber micromass. i think it was like $80
edit: a decent overdrive pedal can help too.
i looked at this-- looks like the new version has an eminence speaker.

Check out the Blackheart Little Giant. It's pretty much the same thing as the EVJ (made in the same factory) but with more features. You can switch pentode/triode to bring it down to 3 watts.

3 watts won't be that much more quiet than 5. Not enough to make a difference anyway.

and the Blackheart is $100 more, i might as well then look at palominos and fender (if i had the $).

besides, many folks like the Junior, so I thought i'd mention my new "discovery".

I use a micromass with an EVJ head to a 2x12 cab (with Weber speakers in it) - it works great, especially because the EVJ seems a little dark, and the micromass lets you boost the highs more than the lows.

Have you ever hooked yours into a combo? I guess you need special adapters to go from the speaker wires to 1/4?

the only two amps i used it with have had 1/4" speaker cables-- a version 2 epi valve junior combo which i sold a while back and now a carvin vintage16. i just got the necessary adapter cable (one female to male 1/4" speaker to extend the one hooked up to the speaker) from weber when i ordered the micromass.
i'm kind of tempted to pick up this new version too. my carvin has a 12" celestion vintage 30 in it, but i wouldn't mind a cheap 2nd amp for recording-- the 8" eminence might work better in some places, or to layer with the carvin.

I don't know where you're looking. It's $20 more.

Even if 3 watts wouldn't really make a difference, $20 is worth the TMB and the cooler look IMO. It's essentially the same amp, so it's just as moddable.

CORRECTION!!! They're EMINENCE, not Celestion.

I'm sorry, everyone, I meant to say the combo (and the cab) have EMINENCE speaker in them, not Celestion. The decals say "Eminence inside".

SORRY!

I have the head version

and I still need a cab to go with it.

The advantage to a sep. head/cab vs. a combo is that you can throw a blanket/quilt/whatever over the cab without worrying about overheating the amp like you would if you tried to muffle a combo. Thanks to Lt. Bob for pointing that out to me.

I don't know, 3W vs. 5W might be more of a difference than you think. I'd have to hear it.

Now that's something I could sweeten the pot with, GJ. A pristene, never plugged in VJ head. After hearing one with the matching cab at GC, I decided it's kind of redundant to my Vibro Champ. What I really need is just another cab for the Champ (I want a Jensen), so I can do the blanket thing. A Hot Plate or a MicroMass wouldn't hurt either, but I'm financially challenged at the moment.

I can't see a VJ suiting your style of music, though.:confused:

Unless you've got a side I haven't seen (quite possible). :D

3wt vs. 5wt

from what I read doubling perceived volume takes 10x the wattage (and conversely halving would mean reducing wattage 10x), so a 5wt is only half as loud as a 50wt. So a 3wt from 5wt might not even be noticeable volume-wise (just guessing), but perhaps would sound "better" at the same level.

It's an Eminence Lady Luck.

is this a good thing? i don't know much about speakers and i also know that these days it's not enough to say "fender" or "celestion" or "marshall" - there's good and bad under most "big" names.

I changed form a Celestion Black Gold to a V30 and didn't even hear a difference. I have a England made G12...I don't know if its worth the hassle opf swapping another one...

they all sound great.

I know on studio monitors there's a huge noticeable brand type difference.

maybe its that all my guitar amps are Celestion?

yeah Gear Junky there's sooooo many brands and models these days,. its frkn confusing. I don't even know if there is a difference other than a frkn glue sticker sometimes?
