Sherman Hemsley, the actor that played George Jefferson died last week, and he was one of my favorite TV characters of all time, so this weekend I worked up a cover of The Jeffersons TV theme song. :D

I even had my wife get in on it with some backup vocals and a little saxophone! :listeningmusic:

Anyway, I've never posted anything in here from Soundcloud before, so here ya go. Enjoy.

Lemme know what you think about the mix.

HQ MP3 here:
The Jeffersons

Liking the flanging? on the drums.

Good song there Greg. Be sure and give the wife a big thumbs up from me too!

A successful spin off from *All in the Family* - *The Jeffersons* had me watching.

Sweeeet!

What alot of people don't realize is that Sherman was a huge acidhead and prog/psych fan. His meeting with Gong's Daevid Allen is the stuff of hilarious legend:
Dangerous Minds | ‘Weezy, get me some LSD’: When Sherman Hemsley met Gong

Also, when asked to appear on the Dinah Shore show, he used his time by doing an interpretive dance to Gentle Giant's Proclamation and, if that weren't enough, went on to deliver a five minute speech about Gentle Giant thus thoroughly confusing the host and audience.

Ok. I'll listen to the song now which I'm sure sounds awesome.

I loved it. Lot's of fun.

As TV songs go, that was a pretty good one anyway. This is great version.

nice! :D

I didn't know you got the wifey a sax ..... or you told me and I forgot. I remember you saying you were thinking of it.
Tell her props for that .... and of course props to the gerg ..... really nice bass sound BTW.

Haven't listened yet. Just have to say that GJ is one of my all-time favorite characters. This is a great idea!

Going to listen now.....................

Fucking awesome. Pretty much how I envisioned you doing it. Great solos too. This deserves to be a on the radio.

"WEEZIE!!!!"

Love the bass sound ! No mix issues for me....this is a fun tribute to Mr J. :D:D:D:D

Thanks guys. :)

Yeah Lt, I aksed you for some recommendations and/or what to look for. I didn't know what her commitment would be so I just got her a student level tenor sax. She's been playing it pretty regularly. She's not too bad, and certainly good enough to throw some basic stuff down for me. The original sax solo i had in mind for her was gonna be a call-and-repeat thing between the guitar and sax, but it's a little too fast for her. So I just did a basic lead and told her what notes to play under it. I think it came out pretty good! :D

Absolutely awesome, loved it! Great mix, vox, performance.

Really enjoyed that one!

Pete

Yeah, that sounds very nice greg. Did you do some backup vocals too and blend them with hers? I didn't really hear any mix issues, but I was forced to listen at an uncomfortably low volume due to others doing things in the vicinity...

I did some serious time in front of the tube in the 70's & 80's watching that show (mostly in syndication?). He was good on All in the Family first too. A fine tribute - well done!

Yeah it's both of our backups blended. I tracked all of my parts real quick friday night while she and the kids were at the movies and that was gonna be it for the song. Then she came home and started playing her sax and a little light bulb popped on above my head. So I played it for her and solo'd my backing tracks and had her do a take the same as mine. I did 8, she did 8, so it's 16 backing vocal tracks all together. I panned all of mine a little left and hers a little right. She recorded the sax on sunday. In all of the hundreds of songs I've recorded and posted over the past several years, this is the first one to feature Mrs_L. :D

Hey Greg, what's your bass and set up? I really like the almost Rickenbacker twang you get, along with the beefy low end.

That's a Squire P-Bass into an Ampeg 2x10 combo. I mic'd it with my kick drum mic and added a very faint tiny bit of mono reverb.

I wasn't aware that Sherman had passed away. I certainly spent many hours watching "All in the Family" and later the Jeffersons spin off. A very fitting tribute. Nicely executed. As always I bow to your mixing expertise. Sounds great to me. I too love the bass sound.

Count me among the honkies that loved George Jefferson--and that love this tune. Gregor + TV Theme = Sheer Genius. (oh, and the mix sounds good, too)

Thanks a lot fellas. :)

Hell yeah! This is absolutely great as hell Greg. I liked the hell out of the Jeffersons. My neighbor is a Bentley. LOL. I'm just listening on ragedy PC speakers but damn it sounded great.

I noticed your other threads and just wanted to say I like those songs as well. I'm not a man of many words so rock on dude. Enjoyed the listens.
