The Next Vanilla Ice
I have been keeping up with the latest stuff coming out from Silverchair, there album's not released though but I've been hearing some of their new stuff from recent live performances and the b-sides to their latest single, "The Greatest View".

I've never liked Silverchair much before, but once I heard their newest song, I was hooked and wanted more and each song I've heard so far that will be featured on the new album. It blows my mind how great of a songwriter Daniel has become.

They're moving out of that whole grunge, power chord feel and sounding more like musicians. I don't know if many of you have had the opportunity to hear their latest stuff but your missing out on alot.

To make this topic discussable, is there any band that you've previously disliked alot but then actually gave them a chance and found out your were missing on alot of great stuff?

i have to say, especially for their ages, they are really good. but even alot of their older stuff went way beyond the 3 chord grunge....thing.

listen to the solo that comes in at 4:13 on their song 'emotion sickness'. brilliantly haunting....

I know they're pretty good musicians but their image is (or was) the grunge, 3-chord feel.

I like Neon Ballroom, I think its pretty cool, there's some good melodies in there but I've always thought some of the music on there could be a little better. But their new stuff beats the crap out of anything they've previously done. I hope this album does well but it seems alot of the really good records that are released today don't do well.

Some bands I think need recognition for songwriting are:

Jawbreaker
Snuff
My pal's band Ethylene (www.ethyline.com)
And alot others.

Now, back to your subject.... at first I thought weezer was cheasy, wana be, pus pop, but damn, they convinced me with pinkerton that they wern't sellout and they were about makin' music how they want... and still they sound sweet. Slacker rock mayhem! I love those guys!

wow...im listening to some of this right now. quite good.

"Too Much of Not Enough" is blowing me away. I think Ill be listening to this for a good while.

That singer guy, daniel, sure knows how to use vocal counter melodies well.

damn aussies :D, first we take all your golden globes and oscars, and now the local songwritting talent has got your mind in stitches, hehe

yup aussies are taking over the world, soon cricket will be the u.s.a's national sport, and "waltzing matilda" will replace the star spangled banner....

sorry guys got carried away there, i just thought i'd remind you that the chair are a bunch of aussies

btw: webcyan, just thought you might like to know that the puianist on "emotion sickness" is david helfgot (check speeling), and there was recently a film biography of his life called "shine", very interesting man with a very hard life...

hey national sandwich, didn't the aussies win the test sieries? o.k. so we lost the one-dayers, but thats because our board of selectors are a bunch of morons.....but they fired steve waugh, so now we may kick some protea arse!
