The chance that I can start a one person band..

Ok, I'm only 13 and I play the guitar. I know some things about music (I can play the drums). I would do mostly everything digitally (like drums and possibly synths and that is if I have any). I have a line 6 amp and a Lexicon Alpha OSIO that has 2 speakers connected to it.

I am planning on buying EZdrummer or the Drum kit from Hell. (See my other thread regarding what I should buy because I'm clueless)

Do you think I could produce something that is enjoyable to listen to? I will buy more equipment if I like making music.

best advice... try it. if nothing else, you will learn alot from simply doing a recording period. when you do things yourself, everything becomes the trial & error learning.

as far as EZ Drummer & DFH... i highly recommend it. it may take a little bit to program the drums in MIDI, but the results are well worth it.

No. I salute you for starting at your age. I began playing guitar at 11 and started getting into recording at 13 as well. I started with similar equipment, and have learned a lot, much do to this forum. So there's a good chance you'll learn a lot quicker being here from the get go.

You are absolutely fine with what you have right now. In fact, I'm still using my first interface. A Tascam US-122. It sucks, but it gets the job done.

All I can say is, get a job as soon as you can. If you really get into it your money will as well. It's best to do it at a young age when you have no other expenses.

i think it is great that you are wanting to start recording at 13. my first recordings were simple guitar recordings (running the headphone out into the mic input of a tape deck). then i borrowed a friend's tascam 4-track. then i got crazy, using a 2-track method with MTV's music generator 1 & 2 for the PS1 & 2 (respectfully). then it was magix music maker 10 for the pc. now, it's mainly ableton 7.

point is... if you want to make a recording bad enough, you will find a way to make it work.

Guitarer is also right... check out the boards. you will find ALOT of usefull info here (and other places also). and never be afraid to ask a question. i've found tips that help out even on topics that don't relate to the problem i'm having at the moment.

I've been doing the one man band about a year and a half now. I use ez drummer with the dkfh plug in. used the beats they give and manually changed them with the mouse in the midi code at first then picked up a usb keybord/midi controller. I first plugged my guitar into a distortion pedal and ran it into my line or mic in on the back of my computer but now im up to using a lexicon omega usb interfave and amplitube 2 for guitar and ampeg svx for bass. I haven't done any vocals on this stuff yet but here is the myspace link. The myspace page sounds kinda crappy since they have to make the audio less quality so its smaller in size so it loads faster and more people can fit on the server. If you wanna hear the high quality versions click on the link to garageband.com where they don't degrade your uploads. Oh yeah everything was done in sonar producer v.7 Let me know what you think.

Get in there and DO IT! You can figure out how to install Cubase and click the 'Record' button right? I always wished I woulda started earlier. Do it, what have you got to lose? Nothing. By the time you're 18 you'll be really good at it, you'll be beating the chicks off with a baseball bat! All the rockers in my HS who could play were, I envied them sooooo much.

Yeah man do it up ive been doing it for over a year and I enjoy it. However i do know that I work faster when I can bounce ideas of people like when I'm playing with my band. Its great because you don't have to rely on anyone else. But then again I can't really play live or at least to the musics full potential. Anyways good luck and you'll be great.

I agree with most folks here -- just do it, and see what happens. If it's not great, that's fine, you've got plenty of time to get it right. You don't have to start perfect, you know. I started when I was around 15, with just two tape decks and a homemade y-connector, overdubbing one track at a time. My first recordings were _awful_. But I had a good time making them, and I learned a lot in the process. Just make some music with whatever you can get your hands on.

Like others say, go for it. The worse that will happen is you will make some bad sounding recordings. Don't worry, we all made bad sounding recordings when we first started. Lear from any mistakes you make. You might want to do a bit of reading, pick up a couple of books on home recording/ studio design and music theory. You asked about bass, you could use an octave pedal (drops the notes 1 octave) so you can play bass parts on guitar. Learn all you can about as many instruments as you think you may ever want to include on your recordings. Take your time and enjoy the learning process, it takes time to get things right. Add gear and instruments as you find a need for them (things accumulate faster than you might expect.) Listen to a variety of music, learn all you can, and above all... have fun.

Like I said in my post I used IK MUltimedia's Ampeg SVX bass guitar modeling software for the bass. Same company and program as amplitube 2/metal/hendrix but for bass with bass amps and effects ect.

Did you check out my links? All done with ez drummer with the drumkit from hell plugin. An ibanez guitar palying through amplitube 2 and a peavey bass playing through ampeg svx. pretty easy way to do it.

No, he used a real bass. It's just an amp emulator.

I wish I was 13 again.

I have a 14 year old nephew who is fast becoming a real guitar god. He's been playing guitar since he was 9 or 10. He, and you, are lucky because you are young enough that you absorb everything like a sponge. I applaud you for starting early. There will be ups and downs, but don't let the downs turn you away from this. Anything worthwhile won't be easy, but the end results will always make it worth it.

Keep at it, you'll get there.

Keep on checking craigslist, pawnshops, and sales. I routinely see those entry-level ibanez basses for less than 200 bucks, and occasionally less than 100. I've heard decent things about those as far as playability, too. I've been recording bass either direct or through a guitar amp for years; just don't turn it up too loud or you risk damaging the speaker.
