Go on about that for a bit, if you wouldn't mind John. Thanks,

hmm

On the sound treatment end of it, for a room. My bedroom is a square, i think approx 10ftx10ft. I want to give it some accoustic treatment, but i don't know what to do, I was just going to cover the walls in foam and egg cartons, and put some foam in the top corners to act as some sort of a bass trap. Any suggestions? I want it to be cheap, and not only give it a better accoust quaiitly, but help to sorta soundproof the room. It is a bedroom, and it is beside other people..

I'd be careful with the egg cartons .... I heard that they kind-of work, but think of how quick those things will catch on fire!!! Plus they look ugly :)

Egg cartons do not work at all. They just resemble other materials that actually do work.

A 10' by 10' room is almost as bad a scenario as you can imagine. Assuming an 8' ceiling, the only thing worse would be 8' by 8'. You will need some real help.

There are kits being sold by a number of acoustic materials manufacturers in most music stores today that are reasonably priced. They usually include a couple of bass traps, some foam-type panels for high frequency absorption, and often some reflective surfaces for random scattering of higher frequencies.

But be forwarned that you are dealing with a space that generates serious acoustic problems. If there is the possibility of finding another option (the bigger the better, and anything but square) it may be more efficient than trying to fix that room.

The egg cartons actually do work, and Craig anderton's book shows you how to use them. They can be put behind Heavy curtains to break up the waves that got through the curtains before sending them back into the curtains.

Me I use studio foam I ordered from AMFoam.com. 80.00 for two sheets 100x80 inches. That is as inexpensive as Ive seen, and they have fire treatment.

i don't see how a square room would be the wrost possible, and having it 10 feet instead of 8 probably wouldnt make any difference at all.
