Tascam to computer

Thanks for the replies all... I have a real good computer I built myself, as this is my business. But find the cu-base software by Stienberg Cumbersome and confusing. I'm looking to recordusing a digital recorder to lay down the tracks such as the Tascam Dp-02, then export each TRACK into cu base for editing and mastering , can I do this? Do I need anything special?

If you've got a solid computer already, then why not get an interface for it and run Reaper to record everything? I don't personally get on with Cubase very well, I find it cumbersome too.
Have a flick through this series of articles on cheap multitrack recording which might be useful. Recording interfaces might be of interest to you, and some recording software packages that might see the end of cubase for you. In particular, check out Reaper at the end of that last link, it's very very cheap and a nice simple program. Only about 5MB in fact, so can't be that complex!!

Really hope that helps. Recording through an external piece of hardware like the tascam will work, but it seems to be a bit of a long way round if you're confident with your computer already.

I'm not familiar with the DP-02, but I do exactly what you want to do with a TASCAM 2488. I'm assuming you can do the same thing with the DP-02. I just transfer my idividual wave files into my computer using a USB connection. It can also be done by burning the waves to disc.

actually, the tascam can have an application as a really nice interface, with great pre's and a routing ability most budget interfaces cant come close to.

they track pretty smoothly, so tracking on the DP02 and editing on the pc could work well.

the budget interfaces are usually 2 inputs and need a decent preamp added...

the DP02 is a bit more portable too if thats a plus?

I been looking into adding channels and some front end control over my stripped down 2/interface....and was looking into a USB mixer, but their 2 out...
I had a 2488 and wish I had it back kind of? I never got it downloading into the pc (and probably needed the cash at the moment.)

there is a enjoyable ease of tracking with those 2488..DP02 type systems and as I repeat some pretty nice preamps and mixer options, and compressors all there etc...

I use a dp01fx to track and transfer to my crappy computer to edit and mix bassically cause my computer is to slow to record direct to it and it lags alot no matter what i do. the tascam has zero lag and i can take it out to other sites and record other people quite simply and bring it home and mix on the computer

That could very well be your driver - what are your computer specs and what interface have you tried recording through? (USB/USB2/Firewire?)

does the DP01 allow track by track upload to the pc?
or is it only the stereo mix, 2 track L & R, that can be uploaded to the pc via USB?
