I always thought that increasing the tape speed yielded better high frequency response not bass fidelity? Personally I run at 7.5IPS instead of 15IPS if i want a nice fat bass sound.

Running at 30ips may help with a 'tighter' bass sound, as it may reduce the deck's low-frequency bump as it is at 15ips. Just speculating here.

Every report I've heard regarding running the MS-16 at 30ips has not been favorable.
Probably not a big deal to set it back to 15ips.
When you double the tape speed the response curve (in general) shifts up an octave. That means the LF knee point as well as the head bump, so you do loose some bottom end and the LF range could be helped or hurt by shifting the head bump.
Nice setup. It is key that all the dsub cables to the patchbay are there...and manuals.
Bring a truck.
And friends.
And some ibuprofen.

The other drawback to 30 ips on an MS-16 is that you wear the heads and guides down twice as fast and the seller was showing the deck with GP9 tape which is also more abrasive then 456. So, as there was no good close up of the heads, I'd be extra cautious of this "deal".
