Tascam M312b insert ??

Hi there... I have a M312b and just picked up a FMR RNC, I've tried to insert the RNC into a channel using the insert jack on my console with an insert cable going mono from left channel on RNC to insert point on console. I get nothing...unless I bypass RNC and then I get signal.

What am I missing here??

I read the Rnc manual on this and they mentioned you could use a single tip ring sleeve cable for this. They didnt mention what happens if you use the y type of cables used mostly. I cant believe it would make a differance there.
If you are, Did you make sure that you have the send +tip cable pluged into the input side of the rnc?
If its the Hosa type then the grey is the one that would go to the input of the rnc.

Hi.... Yes I'm using a Y cable.. It's routed as follow:

Using Mono (left), On RNC..Tip - in, Ring - out and then TRS into the channel insert on console.
