Hello everyone, I have a few questions.
I am going to purchase the tascam fw-1082 and use it with cubase.
I have a tascam 788, and I was thinking I could use this to do some remote work, and then bring back the tracks and add them to my daw setup.
So, can this be done, would I do it with midi/word clock/smpte???
I suspect I could record a sync track, record a few tracks of the song that I'm working on in my daw setup to my 788, record a few tracks remotely, bring them home, and dump them back on the daw and have them sync up.
Will this work???

Also, I haven't bought a computer yet, how fast does a computer have to be to run cubase with the tascam fw-1082?
I've already grabbed some vsts/plugins (ez drummer, ivory, etc.), I'm assuming the more vst's and processors, the heavier it is on the system.

And lastly, I plan on bringing all these tracks to a studio for mastering, and maybe some mixing, can cubase export all of the tracks (that I can later burn on a dvd) to software like protools?

Thanks, this is my first post, I look forward to being a member of home recording. any comments on any of my questions would be greatly appreciated.

happy music making all...

Come on guys, no replies?
I'm thinking about selling my tascam 788 (a guy is waiting to buy it), and if I can't do the syncing, I probably will, but if I can, it will be very useful for remote work.
Please, Any commentary would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

I have the 1082 and love it- the auto faders are sweet and the preamps are great. It takes a little time to get everything set up and working properly with software, but once you get it down it's stable.

Don't use cubase, but all your major dAW's will have the ability to exoport your tracks, and a buddy of mine loves cubase- seemed overly complicated to me. I use Reaper and Ableton and they sync with the 1082 pefectly.

As for computer specs i'm not all that familiar. A good modern computer should suit your needs I expect 'cause the Tascam is going to be handling all your audio- make sure you have a firewire connection on whatever you buy.

Good luck!

I'm currently looking at audio interfaces to move out of the studio and record live gigs. gear like the MOTU 8pre, (but be warned its firewire not usb, so check you have a firewire port), gives you 8 pre-amped channels. and linked to your DAW, in my case cubase 5 will multichannel record. then just transfer the individual trax to your studio pc.

thanks for your replies

Thanks so much for your replies.
I guess I'll keep the ol' 788 for a while and see how it works.
I live in a condo, and belting out the ol' vocals is hard here, that's why I figured I'd keep a portable option to take down to my parents house, and whale away, lol.
Thanks again,
Happy music making...
