Tascam 688 Problems

I just got this unit and I dont know whats going on. I played the tape and found it runs faster than regular tapes but I cant get the mains to work. I,ve been in the music business for 35 years and this board has threw me for a loop. I cant do anything ,I thought I was pretty good on boards until now.
Please help.

No , I got the address this evening to order one . I am doing that tommorrow, I was tring to figure something on my but hit a brick wall
