Yeah, I'm sure you're right, cjacek. I just don't really have the time.

Hopefully it will end up in the hands of somebody able to restore it to it's fully operational glory.

But as soon as it's gone, I'm going to need another deck to fill that empty space in my home. :)

IMHO, you could potentially make more $$ just partying it out. Just my 2c.

I was just thinking that if it's parted out doesn't that contribute to these decks becoming more scarce in the long run? I know that a lot of parts are no longer mad for the analog stuff so it might be 6 of 1 half a dozen of the other.

Sold & Shipped

I thought I'd let you know the deck and dbx units sold on eBay a few days ago.

The deck went for around $225 and each DX-4D went for about $50, just as sweetbeats predicted.

I know there have been a lot of bad experiences with shipping such large, delicate items like these decks, so I took extra care when packing.

I got two boxes, one a 20" cube, the other a 24" cube and two 4'x8' sheets of 1/2" "blue board" styrofoam. I lined the sides of the 20" box with blue board and then began to make a series of 20"x20" squares of styrofoam with chunks cut out to allow room for RCA connectors, pinch rollers, etc. You can get an idea from the attached picture.

After the 20" cube was pretty much an 80 lb. brick of styrofoam, I sealed that box up and suspended it in various packing materials inside the 24" cube.

The end result was extremely solid and secure. I feel confident the 48 will arrive on its new owners doorstep just as it left mine.

Thanks again everyone for all the advice during my time with this machine. I still have a box of 1/2" tape, so I'm sure I'll be picking your brains regarding the purchase of a working 1/2" deck. Actually, I need a new 1/4" deck, too...my Akai has developed some serious issues.

Christmas is coming! :)
