Tascam 424 needs to be cleaned?

Hello everyone I recently purchased a tascam 424mkiii to start recording some lo-fi homemade black metal. After using two cassettes in the machine (counting rewinding/forwarding/bouncing) about 30-40 times ive started to notice a static pop that occurs right on start up. Even when monitors are not hooked up or my headphones i see the L/R master level spiking every often. Also i dont know if this helps but the static when i put on Left-Right instead of mono only occurs in the right headphone. I'm going to assume it needs cleaning and the static is constant because the recording roller immediately spins on start up? or could it be something more serious?
