Tascam 388 for me?

If I stacked all my tape media up in one pile & snapped a pic of it,...

you'd freak out!...;)

I can't believe LPR35 is sold out just about everywhere! Home recordists really put that tape on the map! But RMGI shouldn't have raised the price like that. That LPR35 is a superb tape and that it sells well doesn't mean you rip people off like that! Geez.....

I would get dizzy.

May not look like much. But they're stacked to my ceiling...

My ceiling's 14 feet high. I have a ladder to the right of it.

I have fallen victim to sticky shed syndrome. I hope my parent's don't dispose of me.:o

Here's the last thing I recorded on the 388:

Blinded Mix 4

Mike, I don't know if it's my headphones crapping out on me or what but all I can hear is the left channel. (Is anyone getting the same result?). Sounds great from what I can hear but I'd surely like to listen with both channels going.;)

Hey, are those the tapes that you've received with your 388? All of them?

I have it coming out of both speakers. It may even be leaning to my right speaker a little more but definitely stereo. Check another song to see if you're getting sound to both ears?

No, but your kids might!...;)

On a little more serious note, my mom hates when I bring home things like the 388. She goes on and on saying how I have to throw out my old stuff to make room for anything else. I brought home a wurlitzer organ that was free on craigslist. She flipped.

I knew she was upset that I got rid of the wurlitzer, so I brought home the 388 to make her feel better.

Just tell her the 388 originally cost a small fortune back then, something akin to a small new car. Better yet, show her one of those overpriced plastic digital portastudios vs what you have now, that you've got for 100 bucks. Lets see, the 388 weighs about 90lbs and that's just over $1 per pound of motors, power supply, electronics and metal chassis. I'm sure she'll understand and appreciate it more.:D;)

Damn, now to think of it, I am upset you got rid of that free wurlitzer! I'm right with mom on that one!!:D;)

OK, cool, I don't know what it was before but it's good now. Yeah, the songs' great and I'm actually surprised how good the rhythm guitar and drums sound, especially that these were bounced from the Tascam 238s. The drums do sound authentic. Very nice. :)

I will also put out there that the functions of the wurlitzer were limited. Only the top of 3 keyboards actually worked when it got to my house. BUT IT HAD A LESLIE MOM!

She is not kicking out my 388! I'll give her some literature to back up my reasoning! BUT MOM LOOK AT WHAT CJACEK SAID!

Okay as for an update, I ordered the capstan belt yesterday. Better get the right part in the mail. I have a "confirmation code" from them and really no clue what to do with it? Didn't realize I had no clue until I was off the phone. 14 bucks total. So the total Tascam 388 price is up to 114 dollars. Still hanging in there! :)

One step closer to be an analog recordist(er)! I am so anxious to record anything and put it up here. Slowly but surely, the 388 will be running again.:)Thanks for all the help again!

These would be perfect for your 388, 4 are sealed and 1 used. I honestly would not even touch or use the 'used' one but it's still an awesome deal, for the 4 sealed. Comes out to about 7 bucks per each of the 4 tapes. You can't go wrong here.

Too late! Someone snagged it already. Good find though. That definitely would of been a nice buy. I got the tape from shedshrine and I am ready to roll at least for my first tape. Just waiting on this stinkin belt. Wish it didn't take me so long to order it, I am beyond antsy. The belt will just slip on pretty easily I hope? Thanks for the heads up on the tape. I am in touch with Splicit tape for when they get LPR35 back in stock on 7 inch reels. They only have it on 10.5 reels on hub now. Thanks again.

Eric, just carefully unscrew the bracket, over the flywheel and slip the belt on the motor shaft and flywheel. Spin it a few times with your hand to make sure it's really on there. It's a simple procedure. :)

Not to hijack the thread here but Did someone mention Wurlitzer?
