tascam 246

wondering if someone could answer a question for me regarding the two belts on the inside. unit wouldn't play, so i took the back cover off and found a loose belt -- the larger of the two. one end is running around a large black spindle, and the other end seems to go around a smaller spindle. problem is, there's too much slack for the band to hold tightly (but the band still has elasticity and seems to be in good shape).
am i missing a post, wrap or twist?
please help.

i've just purchased a tascam 246 and it sounds like i'm having the same problem. did you find a solution?

The solution is to change the capstan belt (the big one) and also do the smaller one (control belt) while you're at it. Check this thread out, Beck's pictorial instructions:
