I've just plunged to a world of multitrack recording and bought myself a tascam 238 8-track recorder. My problem is how to hook up the damn thing.
There's 8 rca inputs and the output are also rcas.I've only got an 8 channel mixer and I was wondering should I get 16 ch. board or is it posibble to cope with my 8chs?`Please tell me how do you hook up your 8-track recorder, please. My previous recorder is tascam 244(ooold,should I get rid of it?)

I have two of those old beasts (238s that is). How you hook it up depends on how you're going to record. If it's just you doing one or two tracks at a time, you could use your eight channel mixer for the eight outputs but you'll still need something like a stand alone mic pre for an input that you would assign to the inputs, one at a time. If you want to record all eight ins at once, you'd be better off with a 16 channel mixer that has either direct out puts on every channel or channel inserts that can be used as direct outs that can be used to drive the inputs and the remaining channels to monitor what you've recorded. By the way, you can get some kick ass recordings out of a 238.:D

Hai,

Check if your mixer has inserts on all 8 channels.
If so, make or buy a 8 insert cords and plug the recorder via this way.
The send connector in the input of the recorder.
The return connector in the output of the recorder.

This will work great.

Good luck,

Erik
