Guys,

If you were to illustrate the tape lifter sleeves one needed to make for your tape recorder, how technically would you do it, considering the rather low tolerances of such a task? How would you accurately describe the diameter of each lifter, for instance? I just can't see doing it with a measuring tape... If you were to make a mold of it, for example, how and with what would you do it, as that strikes me as a more sound option (at least for the diameter)? Any other tips on how you would get the tape lifter diameter down and accurate?

THANKS! :) ;)

Calipers!

Every engineer has calipers lying around! ;)

...

Digital calipers are more accurate, but analog calipers are warmer.   ;)

Haha, got'ya!

Nah, they're both relatively equal, but it's not the instrument, it's who's using it!

Got'ya again!   ;)

Hehe :D :)

Yeah, so it's mostly a matter of convenience then? Any typical caliper would work?

I have analog calipers, of course, but...

either type should do the trick! ;)

Thanks Tim! :)

I'm sending some measurements, along with photos, to ATR services for possible sleeves for my recorders and a price quote. I'll keep this thread updated asap. ;)

:D :D :D

Good deal... I've been thinking about that subject for a while. I too would like to come up with a semi-permanent solution before I wear down the other side of my lifters.

Just remember... " Keepa Balance." :)

Cool. Do you have a TSR-8? I can't remember if the lifter poles are the same diameter as the other Tascams, but I know the assembly itself is incompatible...

No, but I think the TASCAM 388 lifters are the same thickness as the TSR-8 ?
Without calipers I can't measure them, but they seem to be just a shade narrower than the 30-series lifter poles. The 388 may be the same as the TSR, I don't know.
