Hi all,
I had plenty of 10" reels of Ampex and then Quantegy 1/2" 456, that I never thought of stocking up on it. Well, now I'm out and I can't locate any in local music stores. I've checked Ebay but people are bidding them up to $70 and higher. I used to pay like $40 for them! Does anyone have a source for these tapes or suggest another make?
Thanks folks!

There's no new Quantegy stock, so you need to look at RMGI tape. Don't expect to pay $40, though, that time went by long ago. High material costs, low demand and a weak dollar have all played their part, I'm afraid.
RMGI is made in the Netherlands using the old BASF/EMTEC formulations. You'll want SM911 as it's bias-compatible.

Other than that, and NOS Quantegy tape, your only other option in 1/2" is ATR's product, but that's more akin to GP-9 and the machine would have to be re-biased for it. And it costs even more.
