My simple monitoring unit consists of Event 20/20's(pas.) and the
Proto J's.
The Proto J's, peak wattage @ 100, provides me with more than sufficient referencing vs the 20/20's. Though specs given by Tannoy states that freq'y response is flat thru-out the audio-spectrum, there is a noticeable 2-3db boost in the lower freq's even when eq is flat.
However, the Proto J's translates efficiently well allowing the user to correctly cut/boost freqy when appropriate during tracking while also giving the user the necessary stereo monitoring during
mixdowns.
Priced just right, annnnnnnnnd, listening to others musical creations who incorporated the Proto J's in judging their own productions;...and determining it's perf equalled or surpassed
other passive monitors in it's category/price range via A/B/C/D comparisons @ Sam Ash and Manny's, I decided to purchase the J's (after I rapped most hard, Sammy's newbie salesman to lower the price from 199 to 159) which turned out to be an able back-up/ref to my 20/20's.
Though I have not been able to compare or even give an audience to the Yorkies, I have mostly read hi-praise for thier monitors. I have listened to members who use YSM's in thier recordings via the MP3 Forum and can honestly tell that the Yorkies also gave the user more than capable translation as these members songs were sonically tite!!!
I am def'ly short on rec'ding & mixing skillz/knowledge but I am
loooooong on ears!!!
