I just acquired an Ampex Model ATR-700 open reel deck half track.
There are some small switches, one for each track.
They can be positioned in either Sync or Repro postion.
I'm thinking that when the switch is on Synch, the signal on the tape is played by the record head and when the switch is on Repro, the signal will be played by the recording head. Is this correct?

Sync should take the playback from the Record head. Repro should take the playback from the Repro head. You use Sync on the already-recorded tracks when overdubbing, monitoring the live tracks directly off the machine's inputs. Use Repro on all tracks when mixing.
