We just posted another tune from our "Assorted Flavors" CD on MP3-dot-com.
It's a sweet love-song that features two musician-friends of ours on strings and soprano sax.
We used a total of 5 tracks on this song.
Take a listen and see what you think.
Any commentary would be greatly appreciated! :)

It's the last song, at the bottom of the page.... "Nothing But Candlelight".

On my first listening,

that must be the sweetest sounding guitar that I've heard in a long time.

Was that the rode ntk on the vox. Nice vox. Clean with a hint of warmth. I think the panning was a bit aggressive in these phones though.

The sax was nice. Very nice. THe only thing is that being used to kenny G, it sounded a bit too far away in the room. Nice room by the way.

Keep it up.

Buck, Great Job, I think that is your best one yet, really nice.

One Idea: I know this great violinist in Cleveland, real cool guy and Politically astute, so you should send him a plane ticket and let him add real string parts. Or at least send me a stuffed pizza from J and B Albertos on Morse Ave in Rogers Park (Lived in Rogers Park before moving here)!

Seriously, do you (or anyone) know anything about long-distance recording? Its something I would really be interested in, and it would be very cool for People like you to send stuff and get it back with real string playing.

Great work.

Thanx, CJ!! :)
Actually this song was recorded over 2 years ago on my old Korg D8 and mixed on a cheapo bookshelf stereo system.
Unfortunately, that's all we had to work with at the time.
The vocals were recorded with an AKG C3000, using a Peavey P.A. head as a preamp. (duh!.... I've upgraded MASSIVELY since then) ;)
The vocals were sang twice to get that thicker sound, then panned out.
The sax player is a friend of mine. He's a professional player and teacher. The guy has great feel.... I just wish we had better equipment at the time to do him justice. (SM58... no preamp)

Excellent, David... Thanx much! ;)
And YES, we DO like to do long distance collaborations!
We just had Teddie Tapawan (AKA SmartApple) here from Virginia last weekend. Teddie and us collaborated on the song "Doin' Nothin", which is also on our page. We wrote and recorded all the music, then sent Teddie the song with a scratch vocal track done by me. Teddie then recorded his vocals and sent it back to us and we mixed the song down here at my studio. This was several months before we actually met him in person. The song has remained in the Top 40 of the General Blues charts for months on MP3-dot-com under the "SmartApple" name.
We were actually thinking of re-recording "Nothing But Candlelight" on my updated 24-bit equipment... (along with MUCH better mics and cables). I could only imagine how great some REAL strings would sound on it! :)
I'll talk to my partner and see if he's willing to re-do... then I'll get back to you, ok? ;)

Thanks for sharing that. Divine.
Glad you liked it, bro!
My partner wrote the music and I wrote the lyrics.... it's based on my long-distance romance with my wife, who lived 300 miles away from me when we got engaged.

Straight from the heart. :)
