and the guitar solo had zero low end. sounded a bit piercing.

Good Job, Monkey.
Everything sounds good ,except guitar solo at 2:02 (thin!).
Mix sounds pretty well balanced too ; cutting between 200 and 400hz clean the things a bit more.

Yes - the solo at 2:00 is pretty thin, could use some eq... The rest is good for me... Brings back memories. Great job for a hotel room...

I listened to Sweet home Chicago 2. Sounds pretty good. The solo at 2:00 still sounds thin to me (I never heard it before), not so much too much high end, but a lack of lows.

The Vox sound a little over verbed to me, but that's a taste thing. Nothing else sounds over verbed.

Cool stuff.

I like the reverb on the vox. Excellent singing and guitar playing.

Some good boogy woogie edged, country tinged blues.

You might bring up the vox just a hair.

Hows it going in Hong Kong Monkey? Going back to the land down under anytime soon?

Haha, this song will forever remind me of the Blues Brothers.

Vox sound real good. Mix and performance are good except for that tinny little solo. Did you record the guitars direct? Slap an amp/cab sim on there maybe.

Hey True...nah gonna hang out in HK for a while yet. I'm enjoying it here, so no plans to leave....Reminds me always of the Blues Brothers too Greg...yeah that solo is tinny and both solos were recorded direct. See how I go putting on an amp sim. In fact basically the whole song is made up of scratch tracks or rough takes...we just got lazy and lost interest really...so any work is for salvage sake really.

What's been happening True? Any more collabs? Heard from our partner in crime? I haven't!!

Yeah, try an amp sim and a nice plate verb, give it a bit of space and it should sit a little better.

Reminds me of Blues Brothers too. Of course now I sound like I am just jumping on the bandwagon.. :o

The most exciting thing that has happened, is my Harley!!

There is a collab in the making at the moment...but I'm a pokey puppie on it..but for genuine and good reasons.;)

I haven't spoken with our partner in crime for a several months now. Last I heard, he was in a band and gigging regular. The band members all ride bikes too!!

I should Yahoo him and check out what's happening in his world.

Glad you are enjoying the Hong Kong scene. Keep on rocking, be safe and prosper!!

This is a fine recording and performance. Very different from other stuff of yours I've heard. Maybe not as much personality...a little on the sterile side, but very clear and tight.

The lead throughout is thin sounding, but no more so than any other clean start with the pick up selector set at the 2nd slot from the bottom. The solo around the 2 min. mark now simply sounds quieter than the rest...not necessarily thinner. I prefer the pluckier tone that abruptly cuts in at the end of that solo around 2:25...sounds like the bridge pick up there...

I have no complaints with the recording or mix. I just think it lacks some of the feel of your reverb-laden originals.

True...a Harley??!...have you popped any mono's yet??

I appreciate the comments....heatmiser you're dead right. Even down to the Strat.

Anyway...one last update...still trying to get a better sound from the second solo. Added an amp sim and some other stuff to fill it out a little. Not overly effective...but it's kind of rough which isn't so bad.

Take a listen if you can:

The solo in question sounds 100% better now but still somewhat distant. Perhaps a smidge more volume.... Whole song just rocks though - downloading the latest version now....

Thanks ido1957...it's a bit better.

Hey heatmiser....what do you think sounds sterile...the whole thing...or one aspect of it?

What do you guys think of the bass....sound/ runs?

Hey heatmiser....what do you think sounds sterile...the whole thing...or one aspect of it?

Sorry, I guess it is just my overall impression of the performance and production. Really subjective of course. I just think of the blues (and this song in particular) as being more raucous and raw. This version is very clean (production-wise) and controlled emotionally (performance-wise). The vox are great...just not very blues-like to my ear. The whole thing sounds great really...maybe sterile is the wrong word.

No, no..don't worry...I don't mind the comment...it could be the 20th floor hotel room atmosphere that adds to the sterility...this might sound like a crazy question...but do you think the bass sounds sterile?

Great version of a classic!
Big blues fan here, I really loved it. Vox sounds great, real cool. I find that the recording has a nice ambience to it. The thin solo? Don't know, but maybe you intended it that way. Didn't really bother me much though. Well done :)

Cheers
Joe
