Suggest me some Tele Pickups

Hi fellas. 60 Cycle Hum has finally gotten to me, so I'm going for some new pick-ups. However, I'm not sure whether I want noiseless single coils or humbuckers (the stacked kind that fiit single-coil cavities.) I was kinda thinking that single coils would be more in keeping with the nature of a Telecaster, but I'd like to hear your thoughts. Especially Anfontan.
 
I want one of those Lollar Charlie Christian pickups something terrible.

I used Fralins in the Tele I built for my Son-In-Law. He's a total rock-a-billy. They sound terrific.

There's a guy around here who has the word "Tele" in his name - he would probably know. Phil....or Pete....

My weapon of choice in a Tele bridge position is a DiMarzio Chopper-T, a dual blade design humbucker that sounds great when stretching strings as you are never in between the pickup poles. It's a 4 conductor wiring scheme that I use a push/ pull tone pot on to switch between single coil and humbucker modes. In humbucker mode it has an output similar to an older PAF humbucker (260mV) so it has a nice rock tone but cleans up well for blues and rockabilly stuff.

I used this diagram (coil cut diagram) for wiring the coil tapping of the humbucker-its the same with a push/pull pot or a Double pole/Double throw switch. The push/pull will give a stock look without any extra holes in the control panel.

well, being the resident noob here, I hate to post on a topic such as this, but I wanted to let you know about the GFS pickups if you were looking at something more on a budget. I am getting the strat style single coils which supposedly have gotten soem pretty decent reviews.

Hey Telepaul, if you want to keep with the 'Tele' sound and eliminate the hum, you could try Fender Noiseless pickups. There are also the EMG set but I find them too clean and IMO 'sterile' but some people love them for that reason. Also, check out this link http://www.kinman.com/ this guy makes sweet pickups for Telecasters. If you want a fat rock tone then like Anfontan said the DiMarzio chopper, or Seymour Duncan Lil '59er for Tele ~ you can probably hear it on their website. The 59er can be wired to spit to a single coil but then you might end up with the hum again :( . Too many good pickups to choose from :confused:
 
Thanks guys! Lotta good responses here! I think I am gonna go for the dimarzio or the Little 59 in the bridge, but I wont be able to put in a coil tap. What about suggestions for the neck pup? Again i want noiseless.
 
I put a Seymour Duncan Nashville 5/2 (aka STL-52) in my bridge position recently and it was the sound i've been looking for. just enough power and just enough twang without being ice-picky (as teles can be). it's the one that they designed for Brent Mason and it was called the "nashville custom" at one point. essentially they leveraged alnico 5's and 2's in the pickup to give the best of both twang and balls without the negative effects of either. IMO, they did a great job with it. i'm going to replace my neck pickup with the matching one at some point.

i've also used the Duncan Quarter Pound Tele Lead at one point and while it wasn't what i was looking for at the time, it had a great sound to it. easy to play rock and roll with that thing.....but a little too hot and aggressive for me. wish i still had it--it died.

a buddy of mine has mexi tele (it's one of the great ones with acoustic sustain for days) that he's got a Duncan Vintage Broadcaster in and it spanks with that tele twang for miles. too much for my tastes (i tend towards the rock side of country), but it makes for a perfect country guitar. and it can get icepicky, which is good for a country guitar at times.

i've also used the Duncan Little 59 for tele (single-coil stacked humbucker), and it's pretty much crap. sounded thin and out of phase when clean, although it did do a pretty decent overdriven lead kinda sound through various distortion pedals. i'll sell it to you for $50 if you want to do a cheap experiment. ;)

it really depends on what you're looking for. personally, i would embrace the tele-ness of the tele and go for something that compliments it being a tele, rather than trying to make it into something it's not. but IMO, if you're looking for a great country sound that rocks pretty hard, look no further than the Nashville 5/2.

neither. it's a happy plain ole single coil. i'm not a fan of either the noiseless or stacked buckers.

the little 59 is a stacked humbucker. above you mentioned that the little 59 piqued your interest. i've got one that i don't need (not the sound i was looking for). it's yours for $50 shipped--PM me if you're interested.

the nashville 5/2 is a plain old single coil, but i've never had even the slightest bit of hum with it and i record with it in front of a 21in CRT all the time. it's not "noiseless" but it's never been noisy. i love it but it's probably not what you're looking for.

If I decide on a 59 you'll be the first one I call. Really am spoilt for choice it seems!
