I apologize for my unscrupulous tactics in suggesting that someone buy a nice pre-owned version of the mic in question if they "just want to try it out". I admit it, I am part of briefcasemanx-AG marketing!
LOL... just for the record, I like seeing hr.com memebers who are not in the business (between private parties)... selling, buying, and trading gear. But, it would be nice if was kept on the right board... manily because I think it's easier for those looking to find.

So wait...
...these guys work for them, and come in here to sway people toward their products?

Yes, that's the great paranoid conspiracy theory. You know, free gear and all that...

It's been going on for at least three years, since I joined, and has been the heart of the reason some knowledgeable folks don't post here much, if at all, anymore.

I don't think they're on the payroll or anything. They're just doing it as a favor.

Kinda' like a guy trying to set up his ugly sister on a date.

Sounds good to me... how do I become part of that PMI secret marketing SWAT team then?

I'd like some free gear. A T3 would be nice for a starter ;-)

Free gear doesn't happen. Believe me ... I've tried. :) Also, watching streams of music students come up to Alan asking about 'artist sponsorships' at Sounds Expo was hilarious.

The people on the PMI payroll have their affiliations clearly marked in their sig lines. But just so we can recap:
- Alan Hyatt
- Justin Hyatt
- Jarrod Hyatt
- Brent Casey
- Reid Mason - whose username is something like 'bluesguy'

Way back about three years ago there were questions over how Alan in particular went about his online business ... but he has learned some internet etiquette and doesn't work in the same way any more.

The problem is that those of us who like these guys and their products get flamed by a couple of idiots who assume we're marketers. I'm not too fussed ... but Harvey and others have had years of that crap and sensibly decided to move on.

Well, I've been around some time also, and have been trying to stay out of this discussion. I just didn't want to pass the (non-existing) opportunity for some free gear ;-) Or rather, didn't want to to miss the opportunity to make a "witty" remark.

Incidently, I own some PMI gear and it works for me. Sure, I can hear some of the deficiencies also, but I don't complain -- it seems pretty good value for the money, as is some of the other stuff I have (Røde, Oktava, Shure, AKG, ECM-8000 and some CAD on its way -- thinking about the ADK Hamburg also).

There are many other factors important to the sound -- including the source and the room and the skills of the guy working the knobs and the guy that plays/sings/whatever... So, with most of the equipment I have, you learn how to work around the weak areas and try to use the most fitting tool for the occasion. I'm sure that better tools would make certain things easier -- but I have no major problem EQ'ing -1.5 dB at 5 kHz on my Røde to tame it down a bit, it that is what I need in a mix. I don't make a living on this, it's all for fun.

Anyway, sorry for disturbing this thread -- it is really refreshing to hear someone making good use of a mic, and achieving a nice result working it out!

Yeah, definitely. We now return you to your normal programming .... no, wait, that IS flaming ... err ... and now for something completely different - civility! :)
