That looks great! I plan on building something similar when I get my next more permanent place. My thought is almost exactly the same, but I'm also going to add 1 or 2 rollaway rack/cabinets for the sides, so I can sit inside a U-shaped work space with desk surface all the way around.

yeah, it's wider than it looks. It's just the right height to work at too. I'm very pleased with it.

I guess it's the way it looks in the picture...but if it's comfortable for your legs, than that's all that matters.

I'm just use to rolling left-right quite often, since I have a larger console and rack gear isn't under it, but on either side of it, so my console just hangs out in the air...there's nothing under it, so I'm use to the totally open leg room.

But your's looks like it has a much nicer/smoother furniture grade finish...mine is more industrial.
