Sorry guys - I've been away lying on the beach for a few days as the carpenters start tomorrow, plus it's the first days of warm weather we've had all summer!!

longsoughtfor - I'd just done a drawing for you but I see you worked it out yourself hey you are getting better at smartdraw!!

Putting the MDF or similar between the joists and the channel wouldn't be as effective as putting it between the joists and attached to the upper floor so the upper floor becomes thicker from below.

Thanks John - Unfortunatly, the MDF between the joists won't work for me for a number of reasons I will go with it below though.

One question, should the resilient channel go with the joists or across them?

SmartDraw is a great little tool. Thanks for turning me on to it.

Across the joists is the way I've seen it proposed with connection to every second joist. The figures for it are at the bottom of this page :
