Hello…
I have a Yamaha MG 10/2 mixer and a MXL990 mic (this mixer has 48v).
The thing is I’m getting some strange sounds (in a very quiet room) from time to time. Like “POFF POFF POFF”. It stops but comes back again. I tried with different cables and nothing. I remember when I was testing this mic with a Whirlwind 18v phantom power supply, I wasn’t having this problem, but then I didn’t test it for too long, because I was told that this mic needed 48v not 18v (although it worked with 18v I didn't want to damage it). What do you think could be these sound problems I’m having?

If you would please listen to the file I attached with the noises, maybe we can figure out what the problem is. The recording was made with nobody in the room, just the mic.

Best Regards,
Willy.

i had the same problem with a couple behringer mics, though i just got rid of them... you should be able to fix it by putting some of those reusable silica packets that absorb moisture in a container with the mics.

Probably moisture, so a search for moisture to see various ideas on drying it out. Failing that it probably a dodgy capacitor. If its still under warranty send it back. If not you could start by changing out the electrolytic caps.
