I have found a lot of help on this forum in regard to specific pieces of hardware, but i`m still stuck on the big picture of hooking up all the hardware to work together. This may be a big wish, but is there anyplace that you could list all the equipment you have and receive information on hooking that equipment together.

Ok - I'll bite frst what ya got?

Do a list and we can see who puts it together first!

ok here goes HP laptop, windows 7..M-audio mobilepre w/ pro tools SE installed...Alesis multimix usbfx (came with cubase LE5).. M-audio studio pro moniters.... Casio keyboard with midi cable...digitech GNX3 guitar workstation (has mic and midi connections also)..Digitech vocalist 4....2 channel 2x12 guitar amp..... 8 channel PA....also condenser and dynamic mics

Ok... Is this for a home studio or live work?

I would first separate the elements... you have 2 interfaces so you could plug the M-Audio into your laptop (which means you have to use Ptools) ((M-Audio via usb - laptop))
Plug the monitors into the Maudio via the L and R outputs on the rear (( L and R out of M-Audio to Monitors = Mini stereo jack to l and r phono on rear of left speaker jack - jack link to R speaker))
You could connect the Alesis to the M-Audio to give you greater control of your inputs (( Alesis out L out R via mono jack to M-Audio channel 1 and 2 jack))
I don't want to be patronising is that what you need?
I'm sure someone here who has a photoshop tallent will probably do you a chart which is clearer.
You have a lot there, explore 1 at a time.
Luck

Thanks Bruiser, Thats been my main stumbling block, the interface to the mixer. Could not get pro tools to work with the mixer. So if im understanding you correctly,i would not have to have the USB from the mixer connected to the laptop, just the mobile pre?......Yes it is a lot of stuff and a little overwhelming. The vocalist 4 uses 2 xlr cables out to the PA,while the guitar also hooks to it and then goes to the Amp. Not sure where or how the mixer fits in with all this stuff as this is the first mixer I have owned.

I would go with just the minimum and get it working - the M-audio and Pro tools are made for eachother and you can plug the guitar and mike directly in. When you need more inputs or more gear work it out then - Im a big fan of keeping it simple...
Have Fun

yes simple sounds very good at the moment. ok,when I come out of the mixer into the mobile pre, should I be using the Moniter outs from the mixer??

Hi, I am having the same problems setting up my mixer to interface to my DAW. Could someone please post a few diagrams as how to hook this up correctly, you know, mixer out (using alts or sub or mains), to interface to computer, back to interface, back to mixer and out to headphones and monitors! I haven't been able to find any on the Net, and will post one so anyone else can be informed when I get mine connected. T-day, almost here in the U.S.!! Thanks for assisting and listening, DR
