Please see posts 28, 31, 37, and 40 in this thread.

"Last week at the AES convention, Stephen Paul Microphones unveiled a prototype of their long awaited large diaphragm condenser microphone and received a PAR (Pro Audio Review) Excellence 2005 Award.

Hey Harvey, what is this award... who decides who gets one, how, where, when, do they test, compare, and etc the mic... did everyone at the show get one... how meaningful is that award really? Thanks

The PAR Excellence award is a joke. It frequently seems to get awarded to products that don't even exist yet. That's not to say that the SP mic won't be fantastic. But that fact that it won a PAR Excellence award really doesn't mean squat.

Thanks nkjanssen, I had a feeling that might be the case, but I wasn't sure. Hey Harvey, do you agree with nkjanssen? I have nothing up my sleeve (it's not a trick question) I really know nothing about this award... and that's the only reason I asked about it. Thanks

Hopefully Harvey can remember his plan of not responding to DJL's posts.......if everyone adopts that attitude we'd be ok......

Actually, I think Harvey said he would leave the thread as soon as DJL entered it.

Nice evening out. The sky is a kind of inky ice blue this time of day, just before dark. Hey, has anyone heard anything about that new Stephen Paul mic? I bet it's a corker.

I don't know why you are trying to turn my question into a big deal... heck, it was just a simple question... and I asked Harvey only after he already openned the door for communication between us by posting to me. So STFU.

yeah , i know....i was hoping he could just pass over DJL......that ignore feature works GREAT.......

i still dont have DJL on mine......it tickles me to see how he pushes buttons.....

I'm still curious if Harvey disagrees with nkjanssen's statement or not... what about the rest you guys, what do you know about that award?

From PAR:

"Each year at the Audio Engineering Society convention, the judges at Pro Audio Review magazine (PAR) peruse the aisles to find the latest and greatest pro audio gear. They then nominate and vote to select the winners of the coveted PAR Excellence Awards, based on the following criteria:

Innovation
Value
Performance

Of the thousands of new products introduced since the 2003 AES show, only 35 were given the PAR Excellence Award last year."

Other than the fact that nobody in the group could remember anything past the first verse and a chorus to any song, it went great. I'll write something up and post it in the Cave later on, if anybody wants to hear more. Bottom line: except for being broke from the trip, it was a really fun week.

This award is no less meaningful, nor more of a joke than many others. After all, Yasser Arafat won the Nobel Peace Prize.

DJL, i like how you deleted that post calling me a liar.....i accept your apology.....

btw, im just trying to keep people off your back......dont you get tired of being piled on for asking one question?......

Well, I disagree with your statement that the award is a joke. The PAR Awards are not handed out to products that do not exist. If they did not exist, they could not be given awards.

The Excellence Award is more of a "Best Of Show" Award, and of course it is PAR's opinion as to who gets that. Harvey posted the criteria for the award, and we were very pleased for Stephen that his work was recognized.

As Alan said, it's a "Best Of Show" award, but what Stephen really wanted more than anything is a TEC award, and I think he'll finally get it.

O/T...
Harvey, glad you had fun.

Let us know in the "Cave" as to whether Pink's, Canters, etc. are still holding up!

Chris
