i dont know if it has and i own a squier.....i havent super charged it with anything but i dont think its a problem..as for staying in tune...use light strings and adjust the bridge and it should stay in tune. mine stays in tune

heavier strings have much better tuning stability. also, imho, the heavier strings have better tone, for my tastes anyway.

Best way to super charge a squire is to replace those stock pick ups with either a sensor lace or an emg 81 IMO.

Youre still not going to get great resonance and sustain from the body itsef (like from a les paul).

But at least its output will improve.

an EMG 81 is totally opposite to the strat sound, imho. it's like dropping a V8 into a VW bug.

Ha! That would be fun as hell to drive!

that would be a hell of a ride! you build it and I'll go for a ride. :D

it is impossible to turn lead into gold.

someone on HC told me when I was gonna soup up my strat copy, "you polish a turd, it's still a turd"..... except better maybe. so you turn ordinary turd into golden turd. :D

anyway if you like, go ahead. whatever will make you happy. nothing beats self-satisfaction!!

I've never seen one but I have heard of people doing it.

A squire will sound great if you replace the hardware, pickups, neck, and body.:D

That's the general direction I'm heading with mine.

If you're going down the aisle in the store trying guitars, and the guitar you like playing best (unplugged) is a Squier, buy it and put good pickups on it.

You will be happy.

It ain't necessarily true that expensive guitars are necessarily always fun to play or necessarily always sound good. A finely made thing is nice but it ain't necessarily necessary, and psychically having a too-nice guitar out in the world can be a pain.

ok the first part is true, even though thats not likely to happen... and the second part isnt true, but I just wanted to clarify, you did mean psychologically right? because I don't think the people here would take it too well if you started telling their future.

Hi,

I currently own 3 Fender Squire Strats.

1) 1998 Mexican--Pretty Hot Pickups, Neck sucks, thin sounding, cheaply made all around, crappy frets.
2) 1996 Korean--Crappy pickups, fairly well made, overall low ouput, pretty good neck, more low end, better than the Mexican frets.
3) Mid 80's Japanese, Great pickups, Very well made, Wonderfull neck, Top liine hardware, Great sound--More selection of sounds in pickup selection switch. As good or better than any current real Fender under $900. Mine is mint and was not used very much..almost new, but has a great patina and feel. Wonderful to play.

Hot rodding or upgrading? Like a few others mentioned, you'll never get you money back. Also if you did change to better pickups, mods..you still might not winding up getting the sound you are looking for..then what?

If you can,buy a guitar that you can play and hear and make sure you play it throught an amp or setup that is similar to what you will be using at home or in your band.

Playing a $100 guitar through $5,000.00 setup in a store may make it sound great but let you down when you get it home and play it with your $400.00 setup.

Just another 2 cents ....
Peace...Ron

thats insane! my gibson didn't have good strap buttons, therefore the squire must be a superior guitar to the gibson, and to all guitars.

Dude, check out the Carvin strap buttons, regular and locking.

Yeah, you're right...

I must be some kind of a slob because this happened to me; I found a nice player, put good-to-middlin' pickups on it, and I love it to pieces.

Yeah I already got some genuine.... ummm, I think Schaller straplocks, maybe sperzels, I don't know, I just didnt feel like ordering them online from carvin when I could buy them for 14 dollars from a store thats 10 minutes away :p
