the one i have.

PM me and we'll talk business because im lookin to sell it.

Record it to cassette, then run the cassette over in your car. Presto - Squashed.

Fire this Sucker up, full throttle

Put the release on full, and watch it go warm.

Its gonna work wonders, specially if you stay close with a looking glass ;)

No use crying over it! :D

Walters, after two years and 600 posts, you can answer that one yourself.

For a really cool cheap squashed compressor sound, try taking an Alesis 3630 and running it through a cycle of a trash compactor. Then insert this on the main bus of your mix. This "mod" also works well for most Behringer comps too.

hey hey hey...

hes buying an autocom from me!

I assume you are looking for an obvious squashed effect, with pumping and all that. A lot of compressors will give you that, but you have to drive them hard enough. Some can handle the "pressure" better than others.

A few that I've used that can give you that squashed effect are the MXR Dual Limiter, Joe Meek SC 2.2, a lot of the DBX range like the 166 for example, and of course the Distressor will really squash things. Those are all relatively inexpensive units except for the Distressor.

Thanks SonicAlbert for the help

So i have to put a large input to make it squeeze but won't that overload/distort the input of the compressor?

I was wondering also about squashing is there a way to not make it pump/breath alot when squashing

Whats the difference between squashing VS pumping?

hey you are actually making sense now walty..

squashing, i'm thinking you are referring to actually creating a special effect using compression. set the threshold very low, and the ratio relatively high, like 8:1 or 10:1 or something.

...you dont have to put alot of input thru it, but it will increase the amount of 'squashing' that is audible.

and nope, if it's squashing, it's gonna pump and breathe like nuts. thats the whole effect in a nutshell.

and this post might be the very first serious reply you have ever recieved.

how did the rapping thing go? did you ever learn to rap well?

How can u squash without it pumping and breathing?

Would a opto compressor be better for squashing or a FET or VCA?

See, this is the thing with your questios, Walt. What you are aking is whether a stainless steel or an ultrasonic scalpel would be better for cardiac transplants right after asking which side of the body the heart is on. How are we supposed to take such questions seriously when you constantly sound like you are in waaaay over your head? And when you've been on this board for two years asking questions about compressors and you still don't know the basics about things like squashing, pumping and breathing, it makes it that much harder.

BTW, the answers to all those questions, including the differences between the different compressor design types, and the causes and solutions for pumping and breathing, are all included in my compression tutorial, which has been available to you for free for close to a year now. If you spent half as much time actually reading available answers as you did asking nonsense questions, you might not have to ask so many, and maybe just maybe you might actually answer someone ele's question once in a while and pay our generosity forward a little bit.

In the meantime I guess it'll remain that you are the only decent one on this board and EVERYBODY ELSE are fucking assholes.

Which compressors will give me a very squashed sound??

up until now, the only question that ever scared me was, "what do you think about marriage".

For walters, it's not about the answers, it's about the questions.
