There was a small amplified pair of monitors previously available that was just incredible!

Look for those. They had Bryston amps built in.

Me too! but I have a few businesses that keep me up all hours ....a live touring PA company and a studio.The others are regular 9-5ers but still take up odd hours.

If you want a first class, smear free set of monitors these are the ones.

If you can't go the cost of the powered route go with the TB2+.

given the pmc's i heard were impressive... it's absurd to recommend them in a thread where the op was asking about speakers that sold for less than $300/pr IIRC...

He's looking for quality and flat response.

$300 won't do that so a proper suggestion was offered.
