My question goes out to those who have heard both of these mics...

Is there any actual sound difference between these two or is the C3 just more expensive because of the various patterns...?

I have 2 C1's and a C3. From what I can gather the C3 is more expensive because of the extra polar patterns, but all of them sound slightly different ( in cardioid mode ). Not better or worse, just different.

I didn't notice much difference in the 2 when I demoed them at AES last week? Just price....

I've used the C1 and own the C3. For my voice, and others I've tried, the C3 has a much fuller sound and not as hyped in the high end. IWhile I liked the sound of the C1, I REALLY liked the sound of the C3 more. Having the extra patterns is nice too, but they do sound very different to me

Yes... they sound different from each other... and the C3 in the cardioid pattern does NOT sound like a C1.

Exactly, they are not the same mic, even in cardioid. Nor are they meant to be.

The C3 is not a scooped as the C1. There is also a smoothness to its top end. This is why the C3 gets used on a lot more strings and acoustics, but it is a better vocal mic IMHO...especially for females

I love my C3 much more than the C1. More folks should be checking out the C3, IMHO.

I agree, the C3 is cool in a different way than the C1. Much more all purpose also.

rythefly, I use to own both the C1 and C3... and I'm not in the mic selling business, so you don't have to worry about me trying to sell you any products... so if there are any other questions about the C1 or C3 that you think I might be able to help you with please feel free to send me a PM.

He he, that's a superb post!
Are you talking about my last post? I'd be more than happy to answer his C1/C3 questions.

I know you would, but you managed to fit a jibe in to the Hyatts as well. Anyway, I don't want to have an argument, I hope you manage to help him where you can. I'll leave this thread now because I don't own these mics!

You have no clue how it is. You are blinded by your quest. Rock on Don(Quixote)

Notice how every thread DJL posts in gets hijacked to arguing about spam?
