What would you classify this mic as?

Warm? Harsh? cold? Any descriptive words?

I'm trying to figure out if it would be the LD condensor for me, or my voice.

It would mainly be for my friend and I. But i mainly record instruments, so it would have to be used for that as well.

I'm planning on buying some Behringer ecm8000's for instruments, BUT since i mainly record instruments, and the vocals i do are like singing/rap/spoken word, so the quality isn't a huge issue, i was thinking my priorities are wrong? Maybe i need more money into a stereo pair of SD condensors for instruments and less into a LD condensor?

I like the idea of recording things in stereo, i find it gives them a lot more body and fullness. They just have more presence in stereo, in general. So it would probably be best to get good quality SD condensors, considering most of my recordings will go through them. And they could also double as Mic overheads (i RARELY record drums, i don't own any, so that is a small priority).

Any thoughts on how the SP C1 sounds, and maybe some types of voices it doesnt' really work on? Any suggestions for a better pair of stereo mics? Maybe instead of spending 80 dollars on sd condensors and 200 on a LD, i should do the reverse and get something like a B1?

IMO, the SP C1 is a bright sounding mic and can sound harsh at times, and the SP B1 is a more natural sounding mic (not as bright as the C1). Also, out of all the Studio Projects B and C series large condenser mic's, IMO the Studio Projects B3 mic is the most useful one, and the best bang for the buck.

Maybe get a pair of SDC, like the Marshall MXL 603S's for instruments because they don't cost much and they sound great on most acoustic string type instruments, and etc. Then get a LDC for vocals, you need to hear a few LDC mic's before you'll know which one(s) you like best. For starters, some LDC mic's at or under $200 worth hearing are --- Marshall MXL V67G, MXL 990, Studio Projects C1, B3, B1, Rode NT1.

I agree on the B3. After hearing some, I REALLY want to go ahead and plunk down some change on 2 B3s for Blumlein... I wonder how it will sound on my choir; we're doing the Mozart K. 427 Grand Mass a couple weeks from now...

Is the b3 a tube mic?

Yea i've heard a lot about those marhsals.

The B3 is a solid state LDC with three patterns (Cardioid, Omni and Fig 8). The Tube model in the B range is the TB1.
