I ordered a pair of B1's from 8th Street Music and they said they'd be sending B1's with the same color dots on the box, but instead they sent a red and a black... From talking to Brent at SP it seems the difference would be about a decibel in sensitivity between the two mikes, but not in sound. Question, does anyone think I will actually hear a difference if I use these in stereo array to record a choir? Should I send one back to match the dots?

Even though the difference between these mikes may be very small I would, if I were you, get in touch with 8th Street and make them correct their mistake.

If you want a matched pair of Studio Projects mic's... you need to get two mic's with the same color dots.

-33~-34dB +/-.5dB, is marked by a red dot on the packaging
-35~-36dB +/-.5dB, is marked by a green dot on the packaging
-36~-37dB +/-.5dB, is marked by a black dot on the packaging

Thanks all!

Even now, as we speak, I am moving to "connect the dots" and 8th street will be sending out another microphone. Let's see, I have a red and a black... What are the chances they'll send a green?!

If you want green dots, ask 8th street if they have two with green dots (if they do) ask them to send those to you.

You ARE kidding right? Just a red OR a black will be just fine...

I'm sorry, I thought you were serious... oh well, never mind.

Wow this is like Instant Messenger!

You must be online now too. I was only half serious, or partly kidding. Actually, based on the way things often go I wouldn't be totally surprised if a "green" showed up. Even so, I had a chance to audtion one of the B1's last night and I love it. VERY quiet and very neutral.

OK, this is weird. I just got a pair of B1's from Sweetwater.com ($79.99 each). They don't have a dot on the box (!). However, they have sequential serial numbers and the sticker on the side says:
B1Mic
StPr
Cardiod Condensor Mic
208948E3

Both mics have an identical sticker, including the number on the end.

Is this sticker just Sweetwater's labeling....or does StPr refer to Stereo Pair?

check on the manual, registration card....mine came with the stickers in the box and inside the manual

Thanks for the suggestion! I didn't see anything on the inside of the box - but both mikes had a black dot on the registration card.

Perhaps Sweetwater packages them as pairs and puts on their own stickers. Our boxes have a small color DOT on them, and the color DOT is also on the manuals

The dots...

The dots are on the long, front of the box. Next to the B1 logo. Because they're not on the end of the box, when stacked, it would be hard for the stock picker to know which were which.
