Bring Back Transfat!
If I run an amp (Hafler or Nady for example) to drive monitors, are there any preamps on the market for selecting source as in CD player, cassette deck, tuner, ect.?
I have limited space and would prefer not to have to use a seperate set of speakers and reciever for playback in my studio.

Not sure if I understand what you mean. You want to playback your CD, Tape Deck, radio etc through your main monitors? Why not just run each into seperate channels on your mixer?

Hope this helps!

If you have limited channels on your mixer and you want to have a consumer type stereo rig tied into your studio the best thing to do is to pick up a dedicated [un-powered] reciever of the consumer variety and bring it back on two channels of your desk. What you're looking to do [if I am guessing right] has no "pro" gear solution that I am aware of. Check your local pawn shops for cheap solutions to this need.

I knew this was a goofy question!

Yes, I want to be able to run other stereo components through my recording system amp and monitors.

I'm not going to use a "hardware" mixer. I just ordered M-audio's Omni Studio. Uses software mixing.

Remember seperate amp, preamp, tuner systems? Preamp is essentialy just a pass thru selecter box (source, volume, tone, ect.). I didn't know if there was a rack type equivalent these days. If not, I'll hunt down an old analog unit IF there's not a problem using the above mentioned amp and monitors like this.

In this application, I guess what you guys are saying is to run "tape monitor out" into one of the in's on the Omni Studio's breakout box?

Yeah just run it to two inputs on the omni. Another alternative would be to pick up a cheap RCA patchbay and run all your tape's CD's whatever to the back of it, and then run the L/R output out the front of whatever you want to use to the Omni.
