Sonar won't play audio

My friend has Sonar 7. His usual setup is USB Edirol 101. He switched to firewire to try out a new express card (which didn't work) then switched back to USB. After a reboot the Edirol is recognized in Window and plays Windows Media Player out to the Edirol just fine.

In Sonar though, 2 problems:
1) In one song of just two audio tracks, it won't even play. You hit the play button and it does nothing. That bar doesn't move across the screen either.

2) In another song (midi + audio), the play works, but no levels show on the individual audio tracks and thus no sound. Funny thing - the automation still is visible on the faders. And there is level on the midi track but it too produces no volume.

We tried a bunch of stuff - Options Audio, Assigning tracks to different outputs, the drivers are all showing up, Assigned playback timng master, audio engine, ASIO, reboots.

He mentioned that this has happened before when switching from firewire to USB. He can't remember how he fixed it last time....

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...this is super frustrating....

In both scenarios it sounds like Sonar can't initialize the device. If you can't get relief from running "wave profiler", or if it never popped up at all, you can go to the Sonar directory and remove the .ini file. Then try re-starting the program. The .ini file tells Sonar what to do upon initialization and without it, it defaults as if it's day one of your Sonar experience.
