I don't see how taking a window that is already too big for my screen, then adding unnecessary pictures to make the window even bigger, is great. We don't all have those two widescreen monitors!

I know Cakewalk has a long history of incorporating good ideas from other programs, but I don't think this is a good idea. Garageband is what it is. I have never used it, but I know it's very popular. However, I think it's kind of transparent to stick in those cheesy icons just to entice a few PC users with Garageband envy.
Well, yes. You need big monitors to use the Console efficiently. But then again, the same goes for the Track View. I don't have two widescreen monitors either. ;)

Knowing Cakewalk, I'm pretty sure that if you don't like those figures, you can just choose not to display them. :)

Your right on there! I have been using wavelab to custom taylor my tracks. Probably because I dont know how to manipulate track sound as well in Sonar. The wave multiband eq is a great tool IMHO. I know that I can use some of the utilities as plugins. But system resources become a problem. Also not all the Steinberg plugins work. It might be my system.
Thats the last AMD I buy, for sure!!!
This is interesting to me, because I don't have a separate wave editor program. What exactly are you using it for? Mastering type stuff after you have finished your stereo mix in Sonar? Or editing takes and/or samples prior to mixdown in Sonar.
I have never fully understood why a separate program is necessary. Are audio editing features just a lot more sophisticated in Wavelab and similar programs?

Just think, you could have all your hero's pics on the console........William Hung, Clay Aiken, Fabio, Michael Jackson.............

[..]but I like the fact that I could put pictures of the singers and/or my own instruments there.
Exactly my point! :) As long as a feature makes the program easier to use, I'm absolutely for it.

To you Negative Nancys out there: If you don't like a feature, just don't use it. ;)

I would'nt mind having a couple of wide open Shirley Manson shots on the console. :D

Any Idea..

What the speckled looking crap on track 5 is?
I'm talking about the little white dots visible clearly just before the actual waveform starts at 00:00:28:00.
I've never seen anything that looks like that in any of my sonar 4 tracks.
Just wondering...
oh yeah, this is regarding the picture posted above of the sonar 5 track view.

Im still an Owner of Sonar 3 Producer. I have had the pleasure of "demo-ing" sonar 4 and did not think it was worth the money for the upgrade. Now, here is Sonar 5. They have to cut me a better deal than $179 to upgrade. Besides Im sure that 5.0.1 will be released fixing some of the bugs before I can even blink.

Listen UP, Cakewalk folks, Here is what I want. Are You listening????

First Off, I want the MP3 encoder included in the program. Im not going to pay you for something I can get free. Its just a hassle to have to go outside the program to do my conversions. You take the $ out of what I give you and submit it for license fees!!!! That really gets my goat, I pay $500 for a program and they want to hit me for MP3 rights.

Second I want a 2 1/2 year FREE upgrade to whatever you put out if I give you my hard earned $$$ now. I'll be investing in the future and I can justify that.
Im sure that in 2 1/2 years you will greatly improve your product in order to stay competitive and I wont have to go broke because you basically changed the version # and added a few more toys (like Sonar 4 definitely IS the poster child of).
Im glad I saved that money!! :p

Third I want a PRofessional AND comprehensive tutorial INCLUDED. You want to increase market share? Teach people the how to best utilize your program. If they produce Pro quality music with it, We all win. You add these Toys to the program and don't realize that, I dont have TIME to figure out how to use them all on my Own.

How about a price for a lifetime Upgrade like so many aggressive programs offer. I bet you would not mind a huge boost in your PE ratio :D next year

There thats my HIT :( :o

Peace
Bill

amen brother, i 2nd that. wont u agree with me that the software piracy is increasing because of some greedy companies like this?? and pirated softwares are a blessing for a poor musician like me :p neways, i still love Cakewalk :D

Wow, I dunno if anyone mentioned it yet, but it runs on regualr 32 bit computers, so thee is no neccesary hardware (or driver) upgrade neccesary. You people gotta read!
Wonder how much better it'll sound, if at all.

Yeah, I was wondering that too... What is it?

Alright alright...I take everything back what I've said about track icons. They're pretty convenient. And pretty snazzy, when you take the pictures from the real instruments yourself. LOL

Btw, Sonar 5 seriously rocks!

Of course I had to buy the special edition

I am going to use my digital camera to take pictures of band members and put their little faces on the tracks. Nice little PR touch to make them feel important.

Hello? SOMEONE knows what that is, tell us please.

Methinks its the muted portions of the clips. That was available in Sonar 4.

You get it using the little "No Smoking" sign (w/o the cig, of course). It's use is kind of odd - with the tool selected, highlight the part you want to mute, BUT you have to release the mouse on the lower half of the track in question. To unmute, highlight the section, but release the button in the top half of the track.
