One question that always gets asked and I'll ask it again is "what more would you like from Sonar?"

For me it would be the ability to go start to finished CD from within Sonar.

Great question and answer. In fact if you could eliminate external gear all together I would be happy to do everything in the box.

The last frontier for me was Autotune, which I was about to buy but I'll see how this latest Roland technology pans out in Sonar.

Your right on there! I have been using wavelab to custom taylor my tracks. Probably because I dont know how to manipulate track sound as well in Sonar. The wave multiband eq is a great tool IMHO. I know that I can use some of the utilities as plugins. But system resources become a problem. Also not all the Steinberg plugins work. It might be my system.
Thats the last AMD I buy, for sure!!!

I just upgraded (3 weeks ago) from HS2004 to Sonar 4 and I'm the happiest pup with it. I looked at the features in 5 and I barely need any of them. I don't have a 64 bit cpu, I certainly don't need that dreadful Variphrase plugin, and wtf is up with little suitable icons for each track? This is the pro version of HS2004 right? :D

Obviously they were jealous of that paper clip guy in MS Word.

They just wanted to be like Garage Band or Logic with there dumbed down icons.

I am a Sonar 3 Studio User and am planing to upgrade but only for the reason that 3 is so limited in some areas that I would like to do things in.

COntrol of plugins is #1, since I cant control a VSTI's cutoff unless its built into the plugin that I can do that. Thats anoying.
I have been looking to upgrade to 4 or 5 PE or to ableton live 5 (I own 3).....
But If I owned 4 I would upgrade at all.

Are you telling me that this doesn't look great?

I like it. I've always loved the Console View (ask anybody here ;)), but I have to admit that those icons makes it even better. :)

Those icons look totally stupid to me.
Oh yeah? YOU LOOK STUPID! :D

Well, maybe you're rigth. But as long as they make work easier, who can complain?

Maybe they look stupid - but I like the fact that I could put pictures of the singers and/or my own instruments there.

You could even put a Michael Bolton pic on your vocal track to give you that extra bit of inspiration............... :D

The horror! I'm writing Cakewalk asking them to remove that feature...
I'm not taking any chances!

It really does like a cool feature though. It looks like it would make looking for tracks a little quicker.

You're probably right. But truthfully it's more like I'm trying to like it - but got this "kids prog"-feel from how it looks. Like Rolands "Do-re-mix" or something...

Yea, it does look pretty kiddy. Personally though, I don't care how it looks if it will make work flow faster. I like the Mackie Traktion layout and it looks nothing like your typical multitrack software.

Nah, but Tracktion isn't kiddy. I tried the version 1 NFR, and I could see myself getting used to that workflow. But I'm to stuck on Cakewalk...

Yea, I still have a copy of Traktion 1. The layout makes it really easy to get things done without going thru a bunch of menus. If it had'nt been so buggy, I would have ran with it. It does'nt have near the features of Sonar though. I think I'm sticking with Sonar for awhile.

I'm pretty sure WMP player will only rip to .wma format. You don't actually think Microsoft would pay royalties to anyone, do you. :)

WMP 10 (not 9 or lower) rips to mp3's..quite decently too if i might add :D

The Icons Suck

I don't see how taking a window that is already too big for my screen, then adding unnecessary pictures to make the window even bigger, is great. We don't all have those two widescreen monitors!

I know Cakewalk has a long history of incorporating good ideas from other programs, but I don't think this is a good idea. Garageband is what it is. I have never used it, but I know it's very popular. However, I think it's kind of transparent to stick in those cheesy icons just to entice a few PC users with Garageband envy.

Now I surely won't upgrade.

Just when you thought the console view couldn't suck anymore.... :p

Dont get me wrong I think there console view is awsome(Better than Sonar 2's........ YUK!). I think the icon are lame.

Wait, I can put my own pics in place of the Cakewalk ones?
I'll just put a pic of my wang there so the next female singer we have in the studio will open up wider when she sings (or inspire the Clay Aken types, I think I'm gonna be sik.....).......

By The way. Michel Bolton is a "No Talent Ass Clown".... Nuff Said? :D
