ok, i finally have something for you all to listen to. it;s not anything good or recent though.
A Song: A recording made with a Tascam 4 track. The guitars recorded direct through a POD. and the drums recorded in one take, using an AKG C1000s, directly in front of the set, about 4 feet from the ground. No mastering or mixing, just what came off the 4 track.
The other song is the first song from an 8 song concept album about the relationship of love and life, called The Zen Mystical. It was also recorded using the 4 track. This is pretty much the best sounding thing i've ever gotten out of a tape track machine. You can learn more about these songs on my personal web site, although you cannot dowload them there.

Hey guys, listen to Waldo,...

fyi, Waldo RUNS Nowhereradio. It's HIS board.

Thanx Waldo!;)

You know, I thought the song was pretty darn good,...

with a strong, up-front guitar sound that ruled the mix.

The drums, on the other hand, did not sound well recorded, they sounded 'boxy' with a definite lack of high end, and seemed to be the weakest link in the overall track.

That's pretty ironic, since you posted this in the "Drums and Percussion" forum.

Anyway, despite the drums sounding weak and boxy, overall I liked the track, and I disagree with the previous post. It didn't suck, it was pretty good.;)

Waldo, i had no idea what a short url is. a url is normally a web address, so i put that. nevermind, changin it now.

Tyler, i seem to have missed your recordings. Do you have something better? and the recording sux, i'll agree, why do you think i'm here asking for input. You write better music? show me.

the drums are exactly what i said they were, recorded with one mic, in the center of the room, one take, with a 4 track - how good do you think it could be? To anyone who was hurt or offended by this horrible recording, i appoligize. but if my recordings were perfect, i wouldn't be here asking questions, i'd be answering Tyler's questions.

I listened to 'A song'

I listened lo-fi though, on dial-up here so 4MB would blow my machine up.

Given that it was lo-fi listen back, I can't really comment a whole lot on the sound. The drums recorded with one mic in this style of music seems a mute point to comment on, unless you were after that sound in particuliar.

Given that....

I thought the playing was good, nice drumming, guitar playing was tight, guitar and drums were tight. Good players, and timing.

So, I can't really say what you should do to make the drums better in their current state. I'd say you can't very much. But next time around you record it (if you plan to), focus more on the drum sounds/micing and how you want them to sound within the context of the song.

Cool stuff.

I liked the Zen Mystical as a mood piece, kinda sets a sonic mood sort of thing. The other song had some good playing on it although it got fairly repititious. You already know about the drum sound. Actually, to have only one mic, you could hear everything fairly well, just no depth or sparkle to the drums especially the cymbals.

Don't mind Tyler, he's just some asshole that wandered in off the street trying to insult everyone he meets.
