Oh REALLY????
so i know the mackie VLZ pro sound great, but i need at least 8 preamps which forces me to buy the 1604 or 1642 which have a lot of extra features which, i guess, i have too pay extra cash for. money's tight so anyone know a good mixer with 10-12 preamps and "no funny stuff" (sorry watched a movie yesterday where they kept repeating that with a german accent) please give me some suggestions...

thanx guhlenn

The Allen and Heath Mix Wizard 16:2 has 16 great pres and no funny stuff. :)
I've seen it on the net for under 8 billskis.
They also make one with 12 pres but it's the same price and has some "funny stuff".

thanks. i'm beginning to like the expression "no funny stuff" (always imagine a german saying it, it's a lot more fun that way ;););))

i'll check out that mixer.

THE BIG LABOWSKI ROCKS!!!!!!!

Also, one of those german guys is flea from the red hot chili peppers and, yes and there's the neat part about one of the german guys being in that funny new wave band.

Best german accient thing in the movie though is "We'll cut off your johnson."

goddamn! we have a winner!

I'll cut off your Jansen!

We are Nihilists! we believe in nothing Lebowski, nothing!

really cool movie indeed. now as this thread is going down anyway i made recommend fear and loathing in las vegas too.

greetz guhlenn;)

ps i never knew the flea part! man i watch that movie about 10 times yet never noticed... maybe due to my mental state ;)

The Bums lost Lewbowski, condolences!

Yeah F&L In LV is a great film - Gilliam's a God ain't he?
The ultra wide-angle started to make me feel queasy by the end though.

Soory don't know shit about your mixer question but then hey.

I decided not to tell him about the bats. He'd find out...soon enough.

Why is everything a fuckin travesty with you Walter?

OVER THE LINE!

most definatly over the line...

why are there rules if noone follows 'm?

ah well, as i'm not going to get another answer anyway, i'm gonna do something daring... does anyone know some films like the ones above? cuz here in euriope these films get no promotion what so ever and it's always by accident that i stumble upon them.

greetz guhlenn

and another thing: as long as i'm daring i might ask another favour: does anyone have the new ultraspank album? cuz it is not released in europe and never will be. a site where they sell internationally would do just fine...

thanx!

I haven't actaully used it yet, but have a look at the Tascam TD-1000. It's a 16 track desk (8 analogue, 8 digital, 16 analogue with convertor). It's an automated desk which is very handy if you're using a sequencer like Cubase, meaning you can automate all fx, faders, pans, eqs etc..

There's dynamics on every channel i think, digital in/out, MMC, and other stuff i cant remember off hand.

have a look at tascam.com . i think it's cheaper than both mackies. but otherwise, get the 1604, ive got one somewhere in my studio, hehe.

i'll take a look... thanks!

pps(thanks for saving this thread from total bulls**t...);)

Paraphrase..

- But... Dr. Strangelove is not a German name...

- No, His real name is Dr. Merkwurdishliebe..

Hahahahahaha

"The funny stuff" on the Mackie might turn out useful one day...

Er... The Big Lebowski sure had it's fair deal of promotion in Sweden at least..

Okay,

in holland i hadn't heard about it until i saw (well i mean to say the past time of see, but i think i just said something completely different... anyway) it.

and yeah the funny stuff MIGHT turn out to be handy but i haven't got money for might.:(
so that's why.

Forget the Tascam TMD-1000 and look for a Yamaha ProMix01 digital mixer. I use 3 of them. It has 16 analog inputs with 8 preamps supplying phantom power. I don't think I'll be switching mixers anytime soon and I've had them since 1998. Oh and did I mention it has motorized faders and MIDI Automation. I bought mine for $500 each from a studio owner.

Trak - I had 4 O1v's, then went to 2 O2R's, now im using two mackie d8b's / an o2r.

pro mixes are great, ive worked with them, very nice, i wish the menus were a little easier to use though.

the best DIGITAL mixer i have found, i use it along side protools...beautiful. i also sometimes use it with the Mackie 2496 hard drive recorder, and those two work so well together.

Yeah the Mackie 2496 and D8B work so well together I think the 2496 was initially designed with the D8B in mind.

the way I usually run it if im doing a big session is have 2 mackie 2496's, 2 D8b's, a Yamaha O2R controlling some of the racks (cus the rack is real big), and then have most of the vocals coming of pro tools. the 2 mackies then sync to pro tools and an atari controls any automation for the 02R and also all the racks and any synths. works real well. The D8b is one of the best things ive ever bought.

That's so funny!!! You have all this hi-tech stuff running and the O2R relies on an Atari?? Hell, do they even MAKE ataris anymore???

Trak & Longwavestudio,

Could you fill me in on what a digital mixer can do more than an analog? here's what i know: the mixer performs A/D it can process and such...

But the sound: which is better? no this is a dumb question. why do you think digital is better? And do you know good mixers brands that aren't tascam or yamaha... it seems that the digital mixer might even be cheaper... but why that f**ked up LCD ? hmmm... pleasefill me in on anything i'm not asking cuz that's because i don't know about it...

Thanks

guhlenn ?:)?

Trak, Atari's are awesome!!! in Britain, almost all the studios run midi off atari's, no joke! Ive got 4 Pro Tools units on PC's/Macs but I feel safe running my automation on the atari cus they hardly ever fail on me.

all the big studios, including mine run on atari's over here. even the place where oasis record (you must know the band, oasis), well, I get hired to do producing there now and again- in order to run the automation on their Neve, you have to run the Studer A80, and it's an Atari that controls it all!! this is one of the Uk's biggest studios with loads of number 1 songs under it's belt, running on atari's!

no, they dont make em any more, if it fails, then Ill sync the O2R to Logic Platinum or something, but it's just that cus im so used to the atari's, i dont wanna change the setup until it fails on me. it's controling a huge rack with no porblems. pc would probably crash! bloody microsoft...
